No, that's not right. We lost our cap space for the rest of the season, which we are no longer eligible to use. In future seasons, the hit is spread out so that it is small. We DID NOT use up all our cap space - we will still have the ability to sign FAs. You may or may not understand this, but it's clear that some don't.

So, we got the pick for NOT using our cap space.

From what i have read they can stretch his contract, but they didn't as of now.
So it should be like -8Million for our cap space in the summer, or am i missing something?

And also, why wave Andy? he's eating your cap even when he's released no? why do it?

They have until the day after he clears waivers to decide if they're going to stretch him. I'd be shocked if they don't.

Why waive him now? Roster size limits. They had to waive someone to even receive him (Frazier), and then had to waive someone to receive Roberts. He's the one.

Warriors just picked up that Center who we cut....whatshisname...big haired dude....

He could be a problem for us if/when we face them in March.

If you want to know why we didn't pick up Varajao...ask Cleveland. Kaman is a better bottom of the bench big and more likely to be able to play in an actual game..Andy has worn a suit more than a Jersey most of his career.

Verajao is who you're worried about on the Warriors? Not to take anything away Damian's historic night against the Warriors a couple of nights ago, but Verajao is the least of my concerns in a seven game series with the Dubs.

Yeah, I've heard about his injury history and, frankly, if he's even in a jersey when we play him, it will probably be a desperate move on their part.

Still....when he's played good, he's played REALLY good. At least...the highlights of him that I've seen. You wanna see someone like Meyers go up against him? I don't.

That being said, we do have Plumlee and Davis.

.....you know, the more I think about this, the more I feel you guys are right. Nothing to worry about.

Never mind.

What's funny is that Varajao may just play against Cleveland for a ring..and get one.

Here is a couple speculations on my part. By giving up some cap space (though not much) and acquiring a draft pick; I think Olshey is still waiting and hoping for another deal like his Chris Paul deal. He probably has decided that he won't be able to grab a free agent this summer who is a difference maker (is there any one besides Durant?) and maybe foresees not having enough cap space for the free agents the summer after since we need to sign some of our own guys soon. So he is collecting assets for a trade.
Now, why did he grab Roberts, who is a definite upgrade over Frazier, but not keep Varajao? Yes, Varajao is better than Alexander, but if he thinks Alexander is still improving, he could be another trade asset by next year; obviously Varajao (and Frazier) not. Also relationships with agents are very important to Olshey, maybe he did it as a favor to Varajao's agent?

From Deadspin:

The Rockets are royally screwed. Assuming they make the playoffs this season, they’ll lose their first-round pick to Denver, and now won’t have the Pistons’ to make up for it. Thornton’s and Motiejunas’s salaries are back on the books, pushing the Rockets over the luxury tax line. Not only do they now have to pay the luxury tax, they also won’t get luxury tax payouts from other teams, and are one season closer to triggering the extremely punitive repeater payments. They have a player whose back is so injured that even a team that coveted him wouldn’t take him. And finally, one of the league’s more unstable locker rooms now has two players who might sulk because they were legitimately traded, and another three (Dwight Howard, Ty Lawson, Patrick Beverley) who were prominently shopped.

Can we expect the Rockets to tank to keep their draft pick?

Well not from Raggedy Andy anyway.
