Will start off by saying I don't know if they do it, but they seem to be at sort of a crossroads with their team, so maybe it gives them a small reset, who knows.
Agreed to on draft night, official after free agent moratorium.
Freeland, #10, and Minnesota's 2nd rounder for Spencer Hawes and Evan Turner.
They seem to have lost a lot of their favor in Turner, but maybe that's just an outside perspective, I dunno. This gives them two lotto picks at 10 and 11, and clears roughly 11 million more off their books for the offseason. They can tank the season with youth, and push for 2014 offseason and draft, or sign Bynum, and still have a good chunk of change left over for a backcourt mate for Jrue. I don't know what they might think. I don't know if they do, either.
For us, Olshey said defensive rebounding, and Hawes is a decent defensive rebounder. He grabs over 20% of available DRBs, around where Faried, Horford, Noah and Jordan are at for defensive rebounding. His overall TRB% would be a lot better if he didn't play high post, thus making his ORB% suffer. He doesn't need touches, which seems like something Olshey is looking for, but can still hit shots at an ok enough clip to not be a Przybilla type liability on offense. He's a decent enough passer as well, so could work well with Aldridge high low. He also blocks over a shot a game, was 14th in total blocks, and 15th in BPG this season.
I dunno if they'd give up on Turner, but he hasn't shown the improvement they'd wanted out of a 2nd overall pick, and will be up for an extension. Maybe they can get more breaking the pieces up.
Including Freeland in the deal, our salary would be at roughly 52.5 million, so we'd still have 7.5 million to play with. We'd have a roster of:
Lillard/
Wes/Turner/Barton
Batum/Claver
Aldrdge/
Hawes/Leonard
We'd have 7.5 million to spend, as well as a the mini MLE of 2.6 to potentially bring Maynor back with, and 2 2nd round picks. 7.5 might at least get you in the ball park of Millsap, or someone else deserving of a 4 year, 32 million-ish dollar deal.
