Bogus! Traffic...

I've never really thought about Washington/Vancouver...... work up in Seattle a couple days a year and that's about it. Have no reason whatsoever to go there. Kinda funny if you live in the 'Coup that you would dare talk smack about Portland. And I have the opposite when it comes to taxes.....my refunds are TOO big! I need to have my accountant change some shit around. I don't have a 9-5, so I don't really get caught up in the traffic.....I do know that I-84 is getting slammed mid day now.

If we would have offered what they asked for which is a new bridge with no Max they would have agreed to split the cost.
Like my neighbor behind us. We were in need of a new fence and the cocksucker behind me didn't want to split the cost with me.

So if you would have let your neighbor suck your cock he would have paid half the cost of a new fence? And you turned that down why?

Moving on....... If Oregon actually goes through with this toll bullshit and makes people from Washington pay to cross the damn bridge, Jantzen Beach will be the first to die because there will MANY people who live in Washington who will refuse to buy anything in Oregon and all those businesses will go out of business because Oregon residents will not be enough to support them. You have NO CLUE how much revenue us 'Vantuckians' bring in for your state. That goes away if the tolls go up.

That's ok, we'll need the space at Jantzen Beach for toll booths.

And why would that have been a good deal for us? We don't need to drive across the bridge every day. And we certainly don't need anymore traffic.

The bottleneck of the current interstate bridge causes backups on Portland highways and roads. It affects our local economy and liveability. Also since container shipping is now limited in Portland being able to ship goods in and out of Portland to the port of Seattle is vital for our local economy. This isn't about keeping those icky Vancouver people out, this is about the health of the region.

And as far as Max goes I believe it was Portland State who came up with the plan of making the current interstate bridge Max, bike, and pedestrian only and leave the new bridge only for traffic. It would have had a huge reduction in cost and construction time.

Stuff can be trucked over the bridge in off-peak hours, we don't need a gazillion lane bridge for that. The only reason we need a gazillion lane bridge, and the only reason the current bridge causes backups (aside from the drawbridge aspect) is rush hour traffic from Vancouver commuters.

i-5 runs from Mexico to Canada, asking shippers to only drive thru Portland during off-peak hours is ridiculous.

Hmm. What do they do when they get to Seattle or LA? I don't think PDX is the only rush hour choke point on the freeway.

I believe we can capture a good percentage of that market. We have the technology.

Do you have any idea what it would cost in dental work to make a Vantucky girl as desirable as a LA girl? It would be cheaper to just build the bridge.

Everyone who works in Jantzen Beach for starters.

Well it would depend on what the toll was... at some level of purchase, it would be cheaper to pay the tolls than the taxes in WA. Obviously you wouldn't want to drive over to buy a bag of chips, but to buy a TV? Definitely still cheaper on the OR side.

Why does everyone want to make it about me? I wasn't talking specifically about me, I was referring to Washington residents who would refuse to spend in Oregon purely because of principle and protest of the tolls.

They make it about you because they want to be you.

??? I wasn't making it about you. The economic tradeoff between tolls and taxes isn't specific to you. I did say 'you', but I meant 'a vancouver resident'.

Cool. Less traffic.

If people from Washington don't want to come down here, I'll be like....

So, probably every job that is lost in Oregon due to tolls would be added in WA. People are still going to buy the same amount of stuff, just in a different place.
And adding jobs in WA is not a bad thing, fewer trips across the bridge means less gridlock, less pollution, etc.
Of course it would hurt the OR economy to lose retailers, if we actually did - but in a more global view it is a good thing to have people buy groceries and such close to home.

Would we really lose much? I bet most of the shoppers and employees at the shops just across the border are from Washington.

Costco off airport way would probably be pissed. That place has more Washingtonians than Oregonians. Tax cheats!

Dude come on, if you could save 7.7% you would drive to Vancouver. The accountant in you would demand it.
