kgw to carry trail blazers’ first round playoff games

belo station to offer free over the air viewing of the blazers return to the playoffs

portland, or—kgw newschannel 8 and the portland trail blazers announced today that kgw will carry the trail blazers during the first round of the nba playoffs. The flagship over-the-air carrier of the trail blazers, kgw is expected to carry all first round games that aren’t assigned exclusively to the nba’s national network partner.

On sunday, the trail blazers clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2003. The team has captivated portlanders with a 48-28 record, playing before sellout crowds and television audiences that are up 30% over last season and rank among the best – and most passionate – in the nba.

“we are thrilled that the portland trail blazers are going to the playoffs this year and that kgw will be able to make the games available to the entire fan base,” said dj wilson, kgw president and general manager. “portland is so proud of the team this year, and we’ll all be gathered around our sets as the 6th man.”

the nba playoffs begin the weekend of april 18-19. The first-round opponent, as well as all dates and times for trail blazers games, are all expected to be made available by the nba when the regular season concludes, following portland’s fan appreciation night at the rose garden on april 15 vs. Denver (kgw; 7:30p.m.)

“we are excited about kgw’s commitment to carry trail blazers playoff games,” trail blazers president larry miller said. “we know our fans have waited a long time for this, and wanted assurance that the playoffs reached as wide a viewing audience as possible. We thank kgw, and encourage trail blazers fans to tune in, show their support and enjoy the games.”

They gonna' get HD for all the games?

bitch! I'm workin though!

That pretty much sucks. I get to pay 15.99 per month so that I can have CSNNW, and now playoff games are exclusively on a local over-the-air station?

Not cool.

pfff, this is totally cool. free Blazer basketball with no need to support an unethical monopolistic corporation is pretty bitchin' in my book.

Dude at least you get it CSN. SOme of these poor bastards can't even watch games!

Only a couple of the 1st round games will be on KGW. The rest will be on either ESPN/TNT/ABC. 2nd round and on is all national TV, no local KGW.

Funny, I ask this very question on courtside, well I sent in a email asking if you had to have comcast to view the games that were not nationally televised. They didn't answer.

I totally sympathize with those who couldn't get games, just like I can't get the KGW games (like the L*ker and DEN game coming up). But I would submit that those who don't get to see the games don't pay a dime for the privelege of not seeing the games. I'm paying something.

Kind of like if I paid for season tickets and then didn't get playoff ones b/c they gave them out for free to whoever showed up at the box office at noon on a Wednesday.

Here is your answer then. You should be so happy. I was hoping they would put all the games on comcast just for you.

Kinda OT here, but fuck Comcast! And this is from someone that has Comcast. I have an HDTV, and now I'll have to use one of their crappy digital adapter thing to watch channels 32-71. This of course means I will not be able to watch the local channels in HD anymore, because of the fucking Comcast adapter (the QAM tuner in my HDTV will be bypassed). Of course, I could unhook the adapter and then be able to watch the local channels in HD, but you understand the hassle this would cause. Fuck! I would have to folk out $15/month to rent their HD box just to be able to watch the local channels in HD that I should be getting FREE anyway! If the fucking adapter had a video out to my TV, it would have been ok to still pick up the HD channels w/o having to unhook the adaper, but the fucking thing has no video out. Comcast fucking suck!

Anyone has any idea to get around this?

Get rid of your TV. Go watch games at a bar.

you do realize that if you had either satilette company, you would have had a box on your tv a LONG time ago right?

I hope its in HD. I watched the Blazers vs Memphis on KGW tuesday night and it looked awful. I switched to KGW on comcast channel 708 in HD and it was showing something else. Blah.

Mike Barrett was just on the MSP on 95.5 and said he expects an announcement in the coming days that all games, home and road, will be in HD.

An HD box that shows all channels available in HD. DirecTV has 3x the number of HD channels as Comcast at this point.
