Trail Blazers gear up for legislative ask that would ‘guarantee’ team’s future in Portland

It would be a nice gesture if there were a $2 fee added to all tickets sold at the Moda that went to sports and music in our local schools. I know added-on fees suck, but at least this one would do some good.

Not a bad idea. A $1 fee/donation would bring in $1.5-$1.7 million a year.
Although my first thought was "I can only imagine how our local government would mismanage this money"

I'm sure we'll audit that $1.5 million much closer than the $600 million.

reading through those comments from the article and I kinda noticed that most of them are not too bright.

A few, for example, said that the companies that benefit from the Moda being there should be the ones who "foot the bill" for it.

Well, if that's the case, then those companies should then get all of the profits from benefits from the Moda being there, and tbh, that 670 million of economic annual activity far outweighs whatever tax increases that might happen,

Then you have the mensa member who said that since Moda is on the name, they should be the ones who pay for any upgrades.

I can't tell if these comments are parodies or clueless morons.

the latter.

This bill is moving so easily. Even the most optimistic person would never imagine it would be this easy. Considering how public funding is extremely frowned upon around here. I think with Portland falling off a cliff so badly the last 6 years, in a weird way worked favorably for this to pass. Losing the blazers would have been the cherry on top death blow to the city. I bet if Portland was booming and popular like it use to be, they would have played hardball much more

It's moving about like I thought it would. I don't think there's any way either the state of Oregon or the city of Portland refuse to step up to keep the team here.

Just got to my hotel in downtown charlotte. In my 20+ years of coming here, this place is falling apart. Empty buildings/malls and offices. Kinda sad actually. Thought it was just PORTLAND that was a burning shithole.

I agree. But there was a fear we would fight the public subsidy and make it difficult for lawmakers to agree. Historically this area doesn’t like shit like that. Regardless I’m glad it’s moving fast and relatively drama free

Stats say we’re dead last in downtown recovery but we’ll be back. As long as we don’t have your “everything is fine bro” mentality
