I think many of you forget that Wheels was a very controversial hire.

Far from beloved when he got here replacing Schonz. I used to listen to Brian in Sacramento, so I knew he was terrific, and I am really going to miss him. But let's give Travis a fair shot. I'm sure everyone will end up liking him plenty.
I don't recall anyone thinking Wheels himself was controversial, it was what the organization did to Schonz.

Well, I guess my point is that in 1999 Schonz was the broadcasting legend and no one really knew Wheels. Not dissimilar to now.

But you’re right. The Blazers did not treat Schonz right that’s for sure.

Many of the people I know didn't like Wheels on air at first but it didn't take long for him to win them over. He was a little to chatty in the beginning.

Im legitimately excited about this move. I really feel bad for Wheels. I hope if it was his health that it improves. He will always have a special part of Blazer history, and his calls were great.

I really enjoy Travis though, he seems like a good guy and a good worker, he’ll be alright!

Interesting that everyone seems to be forgetting Eddie Doucette was the bridge between Schonz and Wheels. Even, major media and PTB press releases.

Could catch...wasn't he doing TV with Jones at first or was he doing radio at first?

This is alright. Not great but Travis did an okay job last year and will likely get better.

I was really hoping they'd just move Calabro to radio, oh well. I guess we have to hear about player's tootsies being set for the foreseeable future.
And those damn wickets.

"Rip City Radio hires Torey Jones to replace Travis Demers".

"Ah fuck, not that guy!"

I've been listening to Travis on various sports radio stations here in Portland for a long time though. I would never have thought he had the chops to be the Blazers play by play guy, but willing to give him a shot with an open mind.
