Free Agent Trendon Watford released

They must be high on Murray and Walker to go this route. Or at least have something up their sleeve in the next day

How can you be high enough on a player who hasn't played an NBA minute over a guy who has shown you quality bench minutes when asked? I'm just confused and annoyed.

At lease the free agent pool just widened. I heard Watford can be available for part of our MLE?

Loved Watford, but let's face it, he was not quick twitch. He replaced the hole in my fan heart when Josh Hart left, so this one hurts a bit. Walker may be coming into his own, and is a better rebounder. Might be something cooking as well...

Production per his contract was quite good. Will be interesting to see what the reasoning is and what comes out of it.

Then again, he was over 6'6", and we can't have too many of those guys. SMH....

So Blazers still have a cap hit of $400k??? The team could've guaranteed his deal and sent him out in a trade to get rid of this, instead they have a $400k cap hit. This franchise makes so many immediately recognizable dumb moves.

Olshey was a major screw up but I question if we have become even worse since he left? I love the Sharpe/Scoot picks but all the rest of Cronins moves rank in the bottom 5 of NBA GM's.

Must mean we're taking back more salary in a trade?
If that was the case, could have just included TWat and the other team could have cut him (if they didn't like him) could they not? He doesn't seem overpayed.

Has anyone considered that maybe after having his offseason convo with the brass, that he was told his minutes would be reduced, and asked to be released? That he wanted more money and we weren't going to pony up? Just thinking outside the box....

I'm so confused about this team.

If Dame is staying, you'd think we would want to keep cheap guys.

If Dame is leaving... you'd think we'd want to keep cheap guys.

I don't understand lol

The only way this can make sense is if we acquire a player in a sign and trade or use the full MLE. Either scenario would hard cap us at the apron. Although cheap Jody will still probably demand the team stay below the tax.

If the Blazers don't get any of those benefits and only did this to save cash its going to be very upsetting. Watford probably could've played 20mpg for teams like Phoenix in the playoffs last year, he's certainly not a scrub.

If Dame is staying we need to make room for veterans to appease him.

Then the Blazers tell his agent to find a team that wants him. Nearly every NBA team could acquire him in a trade. Then the Blazers at least get out of his 400k guarantee. Just cutting him like this makes no sense.

The only way this makes sense is if they're going to turn around and re-sign him later (as teams sometimes do in these circumstances). But that doesn't seem likely given how little he was being paid. I don't get this and I don't like this.
