Something must be cooking. If the Blazers were trading Dame and going completely young, it would have made sense to keep him.
Or if the Blazers are trying to win now it makes sense to keep him as the 12th man in case of injuries. I just don't see a path where cutting him like this makes any sense.

Yeah usually you can explain this kind of thing by saying it was about cost cutting.... but that makes no sense.

He was an end of the bench guy that could play. Right now we don't know when Rupert or Murray will contribute.

The Blazers must be thinking sooner than later.

This looks cheap. If I were Dame I'd start to wonder if Joe's inability to get pieces to help him contend is actually to do with money, and he never intended to trade draft picks for players.

Maybe we are trading Ant/Nurk/Little and had to clear some space to bring back an extra player in the deal.

This could be good or bad news now it's in Cronin and Jody's hands

Good news is this is a precursor for a trade and/or signing or bad news is Jody is a cheap skate and that's all I have cause this move just took me by surprise cause it on it's own makes ZERO sense unless the first part is true but this is Cronin and Jody so who the hell knows at this point.

by the way, the "opening room for a trade" is absolute nonsense

Portland only had 8 players under contract, 11 counting the rookies, and teams are allowed 20 in the off-season. There was no crowding issue

You know, this would make sense if he was a fucking shooting guard, of which we have too many. But he actually plays a position of need. And he's super versatile! WTF

Ghost of Olshey: "Look, Trendon is a stupendous young player. We are grateful for his service, but we got our guys in the draft. We had to make room for them on the roster. We got our guys "

If the Blazers don't get any of those benefits and only did this to save cash its going to be very upsetting. Watford probably could've played 20mpg for teams like Phoenix in the playoffs last year, he's certainly not a scrub.

20mpg in the playoffs? Bit early for bong hits dont ya think.

Trying to wrap my head around this but it just looks like another dumb move that we question immediately and will question often in the months ahead. Only other type of explanation I can think of is

1. Joe asked around the league and couldn't find any team that wanted his contract.
2. Joe has a few veterans identified to sign in free agency
3. Joe has a trade lined up where we are getting more players back than sending out

So the Blazers have a roster crunch issue on the horizon and don't have room on the 15 man roster for Watford.

I fear its much more likely Vulcans/Jody are requiring Joe to stay below the tax and this is another cost cutting move.

Murray vs. Watford? I take Murray but I really liked Watford’s sneaky, effective passing and teardrops. And I do like Walker better long term.

And I do like Eubanks as a 3rd center hustle guy.

Marc Stein reported we are interested in a Center from overseas named Donta Hall…. I wonder if he’s going to be the replacement. *yawn*

I don't want it to be true, but perhaps they are clearing roster spots for a Dame trade bring back a bunch of players?
