Free Agent Trendon Watford released

He'd be playing behind Grant, Walker, and Kris. So, he's a 4th string PF. He was also 3rd string C. We have multiple backup C's we're looking at.

Before you, or anyone else, asks, Walker is a much better rebounder, and we REALLY need rebounding - that's why Walker is ahead of him.
I disagree.
Trendon is better than Walker & Kris.

Although Walker is a better rebounder, it's not by much... But it's 10.3 vs 9.8 per 100 possessions. They are close in that skill. However Trendon is much better at everything else.

This is only my opinion, feel free to disagree. However, releasing Watford would make sense if the Blazers agreed with me, and not you.

Hmmm. This one makes absolutely no sense to me. He will be picked up by another squad and will probably look good on a new team. I'm confused.
Watford will probably be on a new team by the end of the day. Maybe a contender? Go win a championship Trendon !!

I don't understand this any more than anyone else here does, but... Watford had two years to show the coaching staff and front office what he could do, and he evidently didn't show enough. I'm definitely not upset by this.

We need more big bodies, but ideally we get BETTER big bodies. Watford and Eubanks got minutes on terrible teams, and if we want to be something other than a terrible team, adding quality front court players seems like an important step.

Also, I definitely like Walker more than Watford. He's a year and a half younger and it appears the front office likes him more, too. (Next thread: Blazers waive Jabari Walker haha.)

I'm fascinated to see who we will have on our roster taller than 6'8" to start the year...

I'm guessing they saw that he was never going to be a defender and decided not to go the "sunk-cost fallacy" path with him.

Why would the release trendon instead of walker?
choosing John "get that kid a sandwich" Butler, and Badji who might never play a game, over Trendon Watford who put everything he had on the court, certainly started the first day of Blazers Free Agency in a foggy haze.

Watford was a little longer and 37 lbs heavier than Walker, so he was a bigger body. But like you said Walker is younger and may end up better.

Butler and Badji are 7 ftrs though. Trendon is a tweener. I'd say last season's lack of rim protection and the need to guard Jokic, Wembanyama and Embiid makes getting bigger important. Butler is an excellent shot blocker.

Definitely could be it. For whatever reason, he just doesn't seem to have NBA appeal.

Watford was a very highly regarded prep player (ranked 20 by 247Sports), had two pretty good years at LSU (14.9ppg, 7.9rpg in 33mpg between the two years) and then went undrafted. He then was a bit player on two bad Blazers teams.

Maybe it was a bad fit or whatever, and he'll emerge elsewhere. We'll see.

Some people are acting like we released the second coming of Lloyd Neal(Enter similar name as appropriate) or something; Watford was a decent depth guy, nothing more.

This is as close to a jlprk post as you've written so far! Not a bad attempt!

Not even close! Too long and boring. I miss jlprk’s posts. Where did they go?

He posted when Lanny passed away. I think he's in a science forum somewhere baffling guys with slide rules and crew cuts.

My staff of 20 message board writers ran off. I lost the password years ago to my router, and it keeps disconnecting for a couple of months. I'm on a hot spot right now.

Watford plays all frontline positions. Dribbler, outpowers defenders for forceful unstoppable layups. Undrafted due to quickness, but strength more than compensates. Theory for why he was cut: Maybe Mike Schmitz dislikes that skill combination. Incomprehensible cut for a low-paid guy on whom we depend. Makes me think of Ed Davis.

Holy G League Remix! Always great to have you posting my friend! I think we should consider bringing the "real" Ed Davis" back

If Watford was going to see any rotation minutes this year, we were going to be in a world of hurt. He played hard - but we sure didn't win many games he had big minutes in.
He was great pushing the ball up the court and throwing lobs to Sharpe. but I guess Scoot will be doing that from now on.
