Cheap contract. If nothing else, he outperforms a dirt-cheap deal. Can’t say that about most players.
Cheap and young with a good pedigree as a prep player (top 20 player out of high school).

He's been on bad teams and gotten minutes in garbage time, so it's hard to say if he's going to amount to much, but as far as end-of-rotation guys go, he's a nice fit. Ideally we would/will have better players in front of him until he's evolved as a player.

I’m so happy to see all these guys working on shooting. Defense and rebounding are going to win games, but who cares when you can make a jump shot

I think it's hard to display defense in the off-season. Firstly, is difficult to tell if your player is good or the opponent is bad. Secondly, you generally are playing against your own teammates in the off-season so you'll make your teammate look bad. Lastly, good defense is more than steals and blocks and doesn't make for "clicks."

But I know you're making a deeper point about what our team needs to work on.

Yep. Defense is the team aspect of the game. Players work on offensive moves and strength/conditioning in the off season.

Watford is a gamer. His skillset is developing nicely. I'm hoping he's around for a long time. His shot has really developed . He's the Swiss Army Knife of the team. Very good facilitator.

His rebounding numbers would go up, if he wasn't always so worried about boxing out. Sometimes he seems so intend on boxing out he missed the board. Hopefully that improves with age. I think he can be a good bench player.
So long as he does a good job boxing out, chances are another Blazer gets the board, and I'm happy. Duckworth never got stellar rebounding numbers but it was no accident the Blazers were perennial league leaders in rebounds when we had him.

BUMP. Amazing how things change after 2 weeks... and a draft.

Cronin is playing chess apparently. We'll need to see what he has cooking I guess. It better be tangible and worthwhile

Or a simple explanation we've seen on another dozen Blazer moves;

Jody and the Vulcans want to save the cash.

It doesn't save any cash.
He was going to be paid minimum salary. So by definition, anyone who replaces him on the roster will be paid just as much (or more).

Maybe or maybe not. Undrafted players have a minimum salary lower than Watfords. Or perhaps the Blazers only carry 13-14 players on the roster and now can leave Watfords spot open?

Zombie and redundant thread. Closing this.
