Tribute to Meyers Leonard

I think the problem with Meyers is he takes it too seriously. You can literally see him thinking instead of just playing. He'll probably be a good coach one day. Shitty players tend to make solid coaches.
I agree with you on that. As another member here said, part of the problem could be psychological. Play, don't think about it. When he is doing pushups under the hoop during a game though, in front of 20k people.... To me, that's not taking your job seriously. Honestly, my hope is that Jusuf can help him out. "Obi Wan Murkic, you're our only hope...." Lol

No. Its not even slightly on a personal level. I feel that I am a decent person, and help others. I have donated COUNTLESS hours of my free time to the community. Still, if I worked at the Pike Place Market, and I was screwing around on the job, and tossed a salmon off the top of one of their signs; I'd probably get fired....

I like him as a person and what he does for others. However, when he is on the job- and the whistle blows- and he then does a turnaround jumper from the corner 3, and it bounces off the TOP of the backboard.....

I can't take him seriously, because he does not appear to take his job seriously. There is nothing personal about it at all....

I get it. His on court performance leaves much to be desired.

Discussing his efforts on the court to me is different than posting unflattering pictures of him and essentially calling him retarded (which in itself has become frowned upon just in general terms)

So many comments I could make...

We now have proof positive that Butters has gone to trash, real garbage.

Someone who has seats right next to the Blazer bench mentioned that Meyers is really rude to the ball boys and turns down tons of autograph requests while the rest of the bench is really nice and grants almost every signor request. Just one fan's opinion but they were very adamant.

I like Meyers, just wish he would develop more of a post game. The few times we've seen video from the practice facility it shows him only working on his 3pt shooting. I don't mind him taking that shot but he really needs to spend more time near the basket.

It boggles my mind to hear more than a few people make comments like that about several players on the team. Like all these guys are free to play however they seem to individually choose.
If that is the case, I sure don't know why.

pretty much.

somewhere along his development route, he or one of his coaches somehow fell in love with the idea that he's a "A big guy with length that spaces the floor, is an outside threat, and therefore creates matchup problems" and kind of ignored the fact this was complete and utter bullshit outside of maybe 20 games in 5 years.

he's still tall at least, but does nothing with his athleticism - that quote to Quick about not being able to rebound explosively made me wonder if he's ever watched any of his own tapes.

Sounds like Sydney Wicks.

Meyers the person seems awesome. I'd love him to be a part of this organization. Just not as a player.

OT: I can't believe all of the great South Park episodes I had forgotten about....

Remember this one? S12 E3 "Major Boobage" (with Heavy Metal)

An awesome classic....

Nice, so he sucks as a player, and has a crappy personality. Though I'm surprised he would have that kind of attitude, coming from such a poor family, you'd think he'd be the opposite.

With all due respect to everyone who has posted in this thread, this tired topic is a bit juvenile. I have tried to refrain from contributing to it but come on, let it go. We do not need yet another thread blasting the guy. We have game threads for that.

Is this cathartic for some of you? I just don't understand the point of it.

I have been a long time supporter of Meyers, and was very happy we drafted him.

I believed he had all-star potential. He had an amazing college game, in the paint. I even compared him to a poor mans Sabonis.

If you watch his college games, a case can be made that he would go in the top 5 in this draft class.

This says two things. First, this draft class is way over hyped. And just maybe the GMs are not as sold as the fans. Look how fast Denver dumped their (Grizz) pick to us.

Second. Very few of Meyer’s College paint skills developed into NBA level skills. He started out well, but then he tried to re-invent himself. When watching his practice tapes, he spends more time clowning around than actually trying to develop useful skills.

Sadly, I have given up on Meyers. His mind is not in the right place to be an NBA player. At some point, we need to cut loses and move on. I believe after so many seasons, the time has come to move on from Meyers.

My point is, I believed in Meyers. But he let me, and the rest of the fans, down. We have a right to be butt hurt about Meyers.

Of course you have the right. What I question is the way we go about it and the repetitiveness of the threads. You have moved on from him. Nothing wrong with that. I guess I just don't see the point of another thread ridiculing him.

Fair point. Being the best BB fan site in the world does not mean we are perfect.

I didn't start the thread, but I thought it was a good idea. Get everything in one spot, instead of being plastered here and there, all over the site. That way, if someone is offended, or tired of hearing the stuff; they don't have to go into the thread. Kinda like how I rarely go to the OT area. I got tired of hearing all of the political stuff, which is just my personal preference, so I don't go there....

Just me, but I find quite a bit of this hilarious. I AM more juvenile in my thinking than most though.....

He hasn't panned out. I get that. Fans are disappointed. I get that. At the moment though, I think it's pretty clear watching him on the court that he's physically limited in his movements, even running, probably due to the hip and disc problems that have been reported on. He's toughing it out, and playing when called on, because the team doesn't have another backup center, and all he gets is shit for it. :dunno:

I question how serious Meyer's injuries are. Reason:

I have suffered with back/disc injuries since 1976. There are many exercises to help relieve pain and discomfort. Playing BB is not one of them. Playing BB can cause more damage, it will never fix it. If he is truly suffering from disc and hip problems, he should stop playing and make things as right as possible.

I have felt your pain. And I agree. Hard to say how severe it is. I do think he's not moving well; looks more like hip pain than disc pain.

Either way, IMO the Meyers bashing, on such a personal level, has become cringe-worthy. Just my two pesos.

If it bothers some of you, I for one am whiling to stop. Guess it was more venting frustrations. Nothing productive comes for bashing one of our players. I respect your views.:cheers:

And lastly it says youre a bad talent evaluator and don't quit your day job.

Didn't let all fans down. He's a lot better than I thought he'd be

It's not like it bothers me as much as I feel kind of bad for the players when we go the extreme. If I didn't think that they read these boards I wouldn't care. But a thread that says "Tribute to.....whoever", probably gets read or at least shared.

I know I know....they make millions of dollars........but I still have a fucking heart. What can I say...I feel bad for some of these guys.

This is a forum and there are many opines either bashing or congratulating players. It will always be like that and I am happy you can do both in this forum.

Other forums will straight up censor as much as possible.

Besides, if you don't like the thread or topic, then ignore it or don't read it and move on. It's that simple.
