TRob: What's your theory?

That's fine. I'm not opposed to that move. Something had to be done because the bench simply wasn't scoring. I don't know why you automatically think that I'm bashing the move.

Probably my bad on that, Nate. I know your fandom is in the right place.

Meanwhile, I finally get home tomorrow after two weeks on the road. Why or how Comcast NW can't put their games on the air if you're a subscriber is just baffling to me. I'm over crappy internet feeds and sketchy radio reception on the top of mountains in Montana.

Because Leonard moved ahead of the back-up PF who can't defend or shoot, and who has a PER of 14.7 with a usage rate of 23.7?

Robinson simply isn't very good. This is one of the bench moves I'd expect against a team like NO that packs the defense inside. I remember when Nate McMillian was bashed because he never deviated from his rotation on a game by game basis. Stotts did tonight, and it paid off.

I agree with this.

Robinson is just so out of control right now.

Everyone on edge tonight. Must be close to Christmas time

"It's the most stressful time of the year.
With the Pelicans hitting while T-Rob is sitting for reasons unclear;
It's the most stressful time of the year..."

Exactly. Instead of merely saying "Probably because TRob hasn't been playing well," he attacked you.

Nice

He's a project man. He has his ups and his downs. There's a reason why some of us have said that he would be the guy that we would move if we had to trade one of our young talented guys. I do see a bright future for him though. I think he has a ton of potential. I just think he needs a lot of work.

That was a lot of legwork for a throwaway post. Just saying...

I'm not sure how three sentences equate to "a lot of legwork", but whatever.

My post amused me (I'm admittedly easily amused). I thought it might amuse someone else too. Guess not. Oh well, there's always next time...

All good man. Have a good flight.

I was amused if that helps.

I will say TRob looked great in the only game where he got decent minutes. When Aldridge got in foul trouble at home vs Phoenix, TRob relaxed and took over. 15 points, 9 rebounds, and we beat those guys. He knew he wouldn't be yanked. He hasn't had that kind of chance since. If Aldridge had to miss a game, I'm sure we'd see a much better TRob as a starter. It's so hard to contribute when your minutes aren't consistently given to you. Some people just aren't small minute players. They need a chance to breathe out there.

I agree, and maybe things would be different if TRob had been drafted by a team that needed a power forward. He didn't get much PT in Sac, and Houston wasn't playing him. It would be really interesting to see what he could do if he was consistently given 25-30 minutes per night. We just can't afford to give it to him. I like the kid. I think he's very talented, but we desperately need consistency on our bench right now. I would deal him if we could get someone like Hawes.

Is he on the block?

Did he play his way out of the rotation?

Was it just this particular matchup?

He BLOWS, and he's never been taught how to play basketball. I blame his high school coach and college coach. In 2013 you have to baby everyone, just to get them to sign. T rob is a ball full of talent who has no idea how to play the game.

The thing is, Robinson shows potential, and needs a lot of work.

Leonard....I literally have not even seen anything to show potential with him. He could develop into a spot up shooter, but that's about it.

Makes the Stotts' comments all the more confusing....And really concerning.

“I want to help that second unit out with a little bit of spacing,” Stotts said. “Meyers has a good understanding of spacing, he sets screens. I think he and Joel play well together.”

Stotts said Leonard will remain in the rotation.

“I thought he played well,” Stotts said. “I thought he did what he needed him to do. He still needs to rebound better. But I was pleased with the way he played. He deserves another shot, that’s for sure.”

There's our answer. Thanks!

The offense is designed around LaMarcus at the PF as a pick and pop jump shooter. TRob is a terrible jump shooter. Meyers is a great jump shooter.

When LMA has gone out of the game its caused our offense to really struggle creating quality shots. It could be contributing to Mo over dribbling. Before the season I thought it made the most sense to have Meyers be LMA backup with TRob being Lopez backup. Well turns out Freeland is Lopez backup at center. That might push TRob out of the rotation, and I'm fine with that. We've seen plenty of TRob this year and he plays out of control and takes a lot of long low percentage jump shots.

I get that he is a better jump shooter, but TRob is a much better rebounder.....With McCollum coming back, I would rather have a rebounder. Leonard is clumsy, and I don't believe you can fix clumsy. I hope I'm wrong.

In general, hasn't he hit those jump shots? TRob doesn't have a terrible %, does he? What his real problem is his back to the basket game. He's a mess with no plan when he gets it down low.

#Blazers coach Terry Stotts said he went with Leonard over Robinson, in part, because he wanted to space the floor vs the Pelicans.

That sounds like bullshit to me.

It is bullshit. The Blazers have plenty of guys that can space the floor. You don't need Meyers. Somethings going on.

TRob is 11/33 on shots outside the paint, not good.

Solid analysis . . . and fits with Stott's vague statement about spacing.

Like others, I see potential in T-Rob and like the energy level he brings. He seems to have a nose for the ball that Leonard does not. But in the end, who plays may be a product of Freeman more than anything. Who plays better with him in that second unit, T-Rob or Meyers. Freeman sure has come a long way in one year.

A BIG man who can space the floor. Apparently because of what is written below this post, Meyers might be better at that than Robinson.

Ooooo 33 outside the paint out of 125 total shots?

So 26% of his shots are outside the paint? That's just staggering. Definitely sounds like "a lot of long low percentage jump shots."

I actually thought Leonard played pretty well tonight. He's learning how to use the verticality rule. Missed a bunch of defensive rebounds but so did Joel and no one is killing Joel for it...

This has a LOT of responses, some are serious. And to those calling shenanigans on spacing, Leonard is a better shooter than T-Reb. It's not even close. He passed up an open jumper that he'll need to take (link). He has the opposite problem that Barton does, worried that he'll get in trouble for not making the extra pass rather than taking the shot. It will only improve if he's put in these kind of "real game" situations. Meyer's admitted after the game to blowing some box outs, but all the more reason it's important to put him in situations when his play matters. Invaluable experience for the big guy and I hope he can clean that up and get his hands on more boards moving forward.

Leonar_ was a big pile of shit out there. Can't rebound, can't play defense. Those two things are WAY more valuable than whatever BS 3 pointers he is going to jack up

I lost a lot of faith in the coaching staff tonight

He got 4 rebounds in 10 minutes, and we outscored the opposition during the short time he was out there. For someone who has been widely considered a waste of a roster spot, I don't know how much more you would want.
