To hoist you on your own petard once again.

Sources: Kelly didn't know Trump would publicize that Obama didn't call when his son died

What were you trying to prove?

I'll give you that ^^^

What does Kelly think?

It's not on the WWW yet, but CNN is reporting live that Kelly is appalled the congresswoman listened in on the call in the first place, and he's "broken hearted" at her actions (that's the big banner at the bottom of the screen).

2nd hoisting.

Here is a clip. He admits that Trump said "he knew what he was getting into", which directly contradicts Trump's claim that he didn't say that.

I assume that the widow had it on speaker phone. It wasn't like the congresswoman tapped the phone. So, is he criticizing the widow for letting the congresswoman listen in? Weird.

"he knew what he's getting into."

@BrianFromWA has more than addressed that nonsense.

Not to sound callous, and I haven't read what the President did or did not say, but every one of those operators would tell you three things:
1) "We signed up for the tough missions like this"
2) "I'll take my chances against anyone, any day of the week."
3) "We expect the best in training, discipline and equipment b/c if we mess up, guys don't come home, because of #1 and #2"

It's that empathy thing again. Two people can say the exact same words and get two very different results. It's not hard to imagine that Trump struck the wrong tone, even if he was reading from a script that Kelly wrote for him.

What's for sure is the president when he confronts the widow or family of a fallen soldier is sometimes greeted with anger, which is understandable.

Yes, I mentioned that a few posts ago.

There is something to be said for stop while you're behind. Trump started this whole brouhaha when he was asked about what happened in Niger and why he never addressed it (because he cares more about NLF players, apparently). Rather than answer, he went off an a self-praise (I call families!) and blame President Obama (he didn't!), neither of which are true. Then he disrespects Sgt. Johnson and can't even remember the widow's name. She was "the wife", "the woman" because Mrs. Johnson is too hard for him to remember (all black people look alike). But Trump never apologizes, he doubles down. News flash, Mrs. Johnson is a far more sympathetic person than Trump!

And General Kelly, women were not "worshiped" when the had few employment options, no access to family planning, could not open a bank account without husband's permission, and their husbands could legally beat and rape them. How does one say women were "worshiped" and work for Trump? How does one say women were "worshiped" and insult a United States Congresswoman as "empty barrel", not even use her name? Does he mean white women were "worshiped"? (actually, they weren't)

At least I now know what it would look like if someone condensed all of Rasta's retweets and a helping of schizophrenia into one post.

It's almost not worth pointing out the factual errors in what she posts.

It's almost worth pointing out the sources of her talking points.

General Kelly is one of the few grownups in politics these days. That includes the media and congress. Though I have a lot of respect for the Supreme Court justices.

We get it. There are a lot of empty barrels posting on twitter.

Seen it already.

So it seems that John Kelly got the story about the congresswoman claiming credit for funding the building completely wrong.

What she actually claimed credit for was helping to get the building named after two FBI officers killed in the line of duty.

Not sure why he felt he needed to attack her. Makes him look a lot more like his boss than an honest guy.

True: the part where he said she stood up was true. She did give her talk standing at a podium.
Not true: that she talked about her role in funding the building.
Not true: that she talked about taking care of her constituents by getting the money
Not true: that she talked about calling Obama
Not true: that Obama gave her $20 Million
Maybe true: that she sat down after her speech (which lasted 9 minutes, and was mostly praise for the FBI and the dead agents)
Unknown: that 'we' were stunned. Did he even listen to her speech? Did he know he was lying or is his memory bad?

It's fine for him to be angry with the grandstanding nobody from Florida. She's earned his disrespect.

Is it fine for him to make shit up because he's angry at her?

And why is he angry at her exactly? Because she listened in on the call (just like he did)?

Also: Kelly tries to save Trump's ass by telling everyone he (Kelly) told Trump that what they told him (Kelly) when his kid died was "He knew what he signed up for"
Think about this for 2 seconds.
1. The way Kelly tells it, Trump asks this AS HE'S MAKING THE CALL. So he literally doesn't know what he's going to say - has NOTHING planned.
2. He just parrots Kelly.
3. What they said to Kelly makes SOME sense, one military guy to another. But does it make ANY sense to, y'know, normal people? Like a grieving, pregnant widow?
4. Kelly has to know that Trump can't carry this off, that he'll make anything but the safest, blandest condolences sound bad.
5. Kelly also says something like "he was where he wanted to be, with people he wanted to be with." Now it emerges that we have NO idea of why he was in Niger, where he had NO backup, and where private contractors ABANDONED HIM SURROUNDED BY THE ENEMY.
6. Also: Rep. Wilson was a fucking DECADES-LONG personal friend of the family, not some hanger-on politician. She knew them from before she went into politics. She wasn't "listening in" she was there and the family put it on speakerphone.

I guess soldiers are taught they've got to do what they're told, but it would be nice if they drew the line at baldfaced lying to the American public. And the funny part is: he's not good at it. Maybe let Kelly do the consoling and Trump do the lying - both should stick to their wheelhouses.

He's not really angry. It's all political theater. If he's angry at anyone it should be the dipshit boss he hates who's made him destroy any credibility he once might have had, and at himself for not standing up to him more. But if you make it to General, I guess you've got to be prepared to be subservient and brown-nose your "superiors". Anyone with any independence never gets promoted. Also, maybe he really is an asshole. What he was doing at "Homeland Security" certainly suggests as much.

Yes - the parts of Kelly's speech dealing with military deaths generally was terrific. But he ruined it by telling a bunch of stupid lies about the current specific issue.

Did he think there wasn't videotape?

It's fine for you to misquote and mischaracterize what he said.

He's the only grownup in that room that day.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/20/politics/frederica-wilson-john-kelly-video/index.html

While Wilson took credit in her speech at the dedication ceremony for shepherding legislation naming the FBI building after two FBI agents who were killed in a 1986 gunfight, she did not claim credit for helping to fund the building, according to the video.

Sue him if he got a little detail wrong. He called her a grandstander and that's what she did.

I quoted from the transcript of what he said. If you think it's wrong, point out specifically where. Warning, there is videotape of that too, though.

Otherwise, you are just blowing hot air.

Maybe he thought it doesn't matter. As Denny demonstrates daily, we live in two realities now and he was just speaking to the Trumpies and telling them "don't worry, you can be pro-military and pro-Trump". Because this issue is otherwise REALLY dangerous for Trump as a big part of his base thinks it's super pro-troops so it doesn't look good if Trump BLATANTLY doesn't give a shit. It almost sounds like there were two parts to the speech: the part written by Kelly and then stuff that Trump insisted he say word for word.

But maybe that's giving Kelly too much credit.

He got all the details wrong, along with the general concept. Either his memory is no good, or he's a liar. Take your pick.

You're so wrong in all of this.

He's no liar. It has nothing to do with his memory.

Can you think of any other possibilities, or is your logic simply binary (as you typically demonstrate it is)?

Let's see... someone faked the videotape of a building dedication speech years ago in order to make Kelly look bad? Is that what you are going for?

Apparently being a 4-Star general gives you carte blanche to say whatever you want without being questioned. Good to know.

Of course all of this handily takes the focus off WHAT THOSE SOLDIERS WERE DOING THERE and why it was that one of them was left behind while still alive, and when they found his body later he had to have a closed-casket funeral. There's some suggestion that it had something to do with Chad being added to the Muslim Ban list of countries. That would be nice to talk about, maybe.
