So has a presidential candidate ever die during the campaign? Who takes his place, the VP?

It has never happened. The party of the deceased candidate nominates a new candidate.

those two tweets right there are the most revealing about this entire thing

that's because they directly reflect the ignorance, immorality, vindictiveness, and indifference of the trump white house. They don't give a shit about anybody's lives or health. And they've been governing like that for 4 years

An outbreak of COVID-19 has struck the White House — including the president himself — just weeks before the 2020 election.

Why it matters: If the president can get infected, anyone can. And the scramble to figure out the scope of this outbreak is a high-profile, high-stakes microcosm of the U.S.’ larger failures to contain the virus and to stand up a contact-tracing system that can respond to new cases before they have a chance to become outbreaks.

COVID-19 positives:

  • President Trump tested positive early Friday and is reportedly experiencing "mild" symptoms.
  • First Lady Melania Trump tested positive early Friday and is reportedly experiencing "mild" symptoms.
  • White House aide Hope Hicks tested positive on Thursday.
  • Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel tested positive on Wednesday.
  • Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) tested positive on Thursday.
COVID-19 negatives:

TBD:

  • The COVID-19 status of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer remains unknown. It is unclear whether former Vice President Joe Biden has tested negative since Trump's results became public.
Among Democrats:

  • Sen. Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for vice president, tested negative for the coronavirus on Thursday after attending the first presidential debate on Tuesday.

hope they keep testing, this whole incubatory period thing is still unclear, especially if the viral load was small.

I am sure they will

In fall 2016 Hillary Clinton got sick. Not terribly surprising after months of constant travel, jet lag, bad food, fatigue, shaking hands with thousands of people. Trump and right wing media went on a tear about her being old and frail, too weak for presidency. Although she is now hale and hearty.

Will Fox news now say Trump is too old and frail?

Not holding my breath.

Constitutional questions mount: Can Donald Trump be replaced on the ballot in an election which he cannot stop - and can individual Republican states launch desperate bid to delay voting until early December or even do without it?
  • Trump on Thursday confirmed he and wife Melania tested positive for COVID-19
  • The two were forced to quarantine after Trump counselor Hope Hicks became ill
  • Trump is 74, putting him at higher risk of serious complications from the virus
  • Under normal circumstances, Pence would assume control if Trump were to become incapacitated, under the 25th Amendment
  • Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, would be next in the line of succession
  • In an election year, the RNC could also hypothetically replace Trump on their ticket and nominate a new candidate
  • It is not entirely clear how or if he could be replaced on the ballot just 32 days before the election

does anyone know how covid effected Herman Cain (other than dying, you idiots)? Like, was his symptoms mild, or did he go straight to "ooh shit"?

It starts mild and progresses like it did with Boris Johnson (though he survived)
