Interesting case study— a forum chock full of white boomers, the most privileged group of humans that have ever existed on this planet, pointing fingers at others and screaming white privilege. Is there a baby yoda meme about projection? You can’t make this shit up.

I never understood how this became an “unacceptable” argument as a counter to being called a racist. Wouldn’t having black people in your life that you love and care about make it somewhat evident that you don’t hate black people? I hear people (white liberals, let’s be honest) scoff when someone says they have black friends, but I haven’t heard anyone explain why it holds zero validity. Maybe you can explain?

Because usually when someone says "I have a girlfriend in Canada", it's a lie.

Since the youngest "boomer" is 58, I doubt that this forum is full of boomers.

The premise is "I'm not racist, I have a black friend."

If someone has adult friends is that proof that they're not a pedophile?

If someone is married is that proof that they're not a rapist?

It's not scoffing at people who have a friend of a different race, the scoffing is for when someone tries to use a friendship as proof of something beyond the friendship.

The very fact you had to explain that speaks volumes.
The other problem here is that you know this poster enough that you felt like you had to explain it.

Maybe we should do a "Case Study" on that?

The guy literally asked a question about "Projecting" that people are not racist because they have black friends and then complained about people "projecting".
Then added "You can't make this up" after showing he doesn't even really understand what these issues and comments mean.

You are probably correct. You should engage in this conversation and i agree the country should. I just have my doubts about his question being sincere.

My dad was born in Cuba so I'll be the Hispanic friend if any of you need one. I'm much cooler than that @THE HCP dude.

I don’t fully agree that those analogies represent the argument accurately. I do appreciate a coherent, sincere response however. Yoda memes and smug, irrelevant insults don’t help me see the other side of the argument.

I did post a google search that has some very good essays and editorials that explain things much better than I can.

You're the same guy who said this, right?

Yep, dish out and you will receive. It was snarky I’ll admit it, but at least it addressed the comment made to me with some sort of relevance. How is your girlfriend in Canada, by the way?

Sure, whatever you think validates your point.

Because it's not a counter to being racist. Not being racist demands more than an association with black people.

'I have black friends' is a weak response that denotes a fear of discussing racism. It's an excuse not to have the dialogue that should be had. It's not enough to say you aren't racist. You need to be actively anti-racist....speaking out against it whenever you see it.

Some people like Trump who say they have black friends...well those black friends may well be like Ben Carson, Candace Owens, Clarence Thomas, etc who are willing to overlook racism or pretend it doesn't exist.

Little known fact about click bait Tucker....before he signed onto Fox he worked with Rachel Maddow at Air America radio and was not playing the role he's playing now....he just knows that's how to get Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly money....people also don't know Bill O'Reilly and Bill Maher are good friends.....it's theater and Tucker Carlson has taken the Alex Jones sensationalist cue card and run with it.....it's lining his pockets and he doesn't care if it's true or not. Puppet journalism. Sell hate and rake in the big bucks....that's the lesson from the Trump presidency

My original response to you was a pretty benign, inoffensive and sincere question. Nobody even attempted to answer it (until now), just posted memes and called me white privileged.

I didn't post memes, nor did I call you white privileged.

No, someone else did. Your Canada comment wasn’t entirely helpful though, it was more so suggesting that people are simply lying if they dare to say they might have black friends. I realize it was probably a joke but nonetheless, nobody was willing to explain their side until called out for avoiding the subject. And the people actually attempting to answer the question aren’t even the ones who were mocking me, those people are still avoiding.

Im saying people who use the claim "they have black friends" after being called out for saying racist things or being a racist, don't realize that doesn't absolve them of the accusation.
