No question about that. Just as Trump himself largely came about from an anti-Clinton sentiment.

They can't divorce themselves from Trump now. He has a baked-in core group of support that's roughly 40% of the entire Republican voting bloc. They dump Trump, they lose that 40% of their votes. They can't possibly win enough moderates to make up for that.
I think it would be better stated to say that Trump would not have won the Electoral College without a significant degree of anti Clinton sentiment. I'd have to credit blind assed luck for the main reason why he won.

Trump Campaign Looks at Electoral Map and Doesn’t Like What It Sees

President Trump is facing the bleakest outlook for his re-election bid so far, with his polling numbers plunging in both public and private surveys and his campaign beginning to worry about his standing in states like Ohio and Iowa that he carried by wide margins four years ago.

The Trump campaign has recently undertaken a multimillion-dollar advertising effort in those two states as well as Arizona in hopes of improving his standing, while also shaking up his political operation and turning new attention to states like Georgia that were once considered reliably Republican. In private, Mr. Trump has expressed concern that his campaign is not battle-ready for the general election, while Republicans are concerned about whether the president can emerge in a strong position from the national crises battering the country.

Mr. Trump has been consistently unpopular as president with a majority of Americans; his advisers have long seen his effort to win a new term as depending on the loyalty of his conservative base and the Republican-friendly tilt of the Electoral College — factors that could allow the president to capture another thin victory despite the strong possibility of losing the popular vote again.

But amid the human and economic devastation of the coronavirus pandemic and now a wave of demonstrations and social unrest in American cities, Mr. Trump has fallen significantly behind his Democratic challenger, Joseph R. Biden Jr.

In private polling conducted by Mr. Trump’s campaign, the president is now well behind Mr. Biden, according to people briefed on the most recent round of results. Multiple public surveys this week have found Mr. Trump trailing Mr. Biden, the former vice president, by double-digit margins, including a Monmouth University poll published on Wednesday that showed Mr. Biden ahead by 11 percentage points.

I was never a fan of Mitt Romney, but he has sure proven to learn from his previous mistakes and seems like a pretty decent human being for a politician. Not sure he belongs in today's GOP, unfortunately.

So Trump mortgaged our children's future with a tax plan that gave big business and the rich huge tax breaks and at the same time increased our national debt...yet this POS actually believes this will help our country while boosting his resume.

Yep, he has no clue how to succeed long term by investing in the long-run instead of the artificial short-term gains - as evidenced by his multitude of bankruptcies, his work to ruin a good economy by trying to make it great for a short-term due to debt, inability to understand the importance of people and knowledge retention, dismantling of procedures that are there for disaster scenarios because they do not add to the bottom line immediately and ignoring sound scientific advice because it interferes with his economic delusions.

Even if he was a decent human being who tried to stay truthful he should go because he is an incompetent president. Add lack of empathy, toxic division techniques and inability to respect the constitution - and he should not server any more. Let's remember that the GOP senate had a chance to remove him before for blatant abuse of power and failed to do that - and make sure they pay the appropriate price as well.

He doesn't believe it, he believes idiots will believe him. That's all he's doing. He KNOWS if he says the moon landing was a liberal hoax, and that it's made of cheese whiz, these idiots will think "you know, I think he's right. At least, I respect his opinion on this subject. #FakeMoonLanding #LiberalWhiz"

This may be a poor analogy but some of Trump's more fanatical base who blindly support and defend him, reminds me of Hitler's rise to power.

I also noticed that the usual suspects are now suffering from lockjaw concerning Trump's approval rating and how he stands with Biden;

Joe Biden leads Donald Trump by 14 points, new CNN poll finds; President’s job approval reaches lowest level since January 2019

All Biden has to do is sit in a bunker. Meanwhile, Trump is facing multitudes of stuff that no POTUS has had to face in recent memory. Nonetheless, duly noted that Trump is slipping fast.

You think Trump is a great leader and uniter?

or do you just toe the party line because he’s a Republican and abortions are bad?

You ever be around someone who causes drama, and then complains that they are always surrounded by drama? Part of which is made up/not real, and an even larger portion is self inflicted?

That's the "multitudes of stuff" that he is facing.

I see.

And he's mostly faced it from a golf course. I guess in your world, that's difficult and admirable.

Heh, I think he's been to the office a few times, as well. My guess is, that's his only form of recreation. I doubt he's the social drinking type.
