So much fore social-distancing! Donald Trump is seen golfing for the first time since the coronavirus outbreak began and is seen shaking hands on the course
  • President Trump enjoyed a leisurely start to Memorial Day weekend as he arrived at his Trump National Golf Club in Virginia Saturday for a round on the course
  • Concerns about the national health crisis which has so far killed more than 96,000 Americans seemed to be a distant memory
  • Trump was seen flouting social distancing requirements to stay six feet from other people and even shook hands with a fellow golfer
  • This comes despite Dr. Deborah Birx telling Americans they can enjoy the game - and other sports - over Memorial Day weekend as long as they social distance
  • The visit to his club marked Trump's first game on one of his private courses in 75 days, when he was last played at his Palm Beach club on March 8
  • Trump has repeatedly said he has missed playing the sport during the pandemic

Not to mention we have paid over $130 million for his fat ass to play golf

All presidents have played excessive golf, silly. Lighten up, Francis.

nice try shirley, but those were trumps words when he was first in office complaining about how much Obama golfed and that he wouldn't have time to golf. Turns out, it was just one of the many thousand lies he has told the American people as he has golfed twice as much as Obama. You enable and support a compulsive liar.

Dude, if you haven't realized by now that that is Trump's mantra....trotting out some sensationalistic remark, then reeling back form that - then you're out there under a rock somewhere. OK, well, you probably are, anyway.

No, all presidents have played golf. He's the only one who has played it excessively.

Can you speak in coherent sentences? I don't speak trump. trump's mantra is that he lies. Plain and simple slick.

Not if you can't figure that out, no.

I really don't have a problem with him golfing. This has been a tough time. He has spent a bunch of time dealing with a tough situation.
My problem comes with the fact that he tried to make an issue of this in years past.
I'm thinking about going out and hookin a few myself but of course i'm not quite in his position.

Yep. The issue is the double standard. all politicians have them but geez don't make it so obvious....
Just anOther reason why twitter is the President’s achilles heel. foot in mouth way too often.

Are you saying we've been entweeted with TMI? ;)

You're a bit late to that party.

I don't have a problem with people complaining that they don't like it when the President sleeps around, does drugs, feels he (or she) is ill-prepared, golfs too much, capitulates too much, etc...but I do have a problem with the same people who complained about a Presidents morality, or common sense/business sense, or spends too much time golfing, are completely fine with it when a President with their party does the same.

I didn't necessarily like how often Obama golfed (I find the game boring). But I don't care if he does. It's a stressful job. But what I do care about is someone who spread the idea that Obama golfed waaaaaay too much and that they would never golf (or not golf as much as Obama), actually golfs more. It was pretty clear to many that one of the biggest reasons why Trump would use this tactic is because it created a way to make it look like Obama thought he was "better" than the rest of us. Be it a subtle "wag the dog" racism trope, or a financial "class" separation trope, I don't know.

But what I do know is that when someone golfs more than the person they accuse of golfing too much, and is much more of an elitist and snob than they imply that Obama was, there's a reason why people are turning a blind eye to this Mt Everest of hypocrisy.

I understand everything you are relating here. Trump is hyperbolic, brash, egotistical, and even hypocritical at times. That said, I do think what Orion said has some bearing here in that Trump has had so much hate (litigation) lashed at him from the left, golf may truly be his only outlet.

Yep. I agree overall and in case it wasn't clear, i meant Trump’s double standard. Not those pointing out his golfing.
I just wish he would shut the fuck up, do his thing and not give a shit or respond to the media in general.
Never has a President made himself so accessible to the media and there is a reason. prior to Obama you heard from the President a few times a year really and the rest was all press secretary updates.
i understand how the media has shifted over the years but it really is his worst enemy in my opinion. Its very agenda driven rather than truth driven and he lets himself get sucked in and he loses alot of that media warfare because the media does not forget anything said. Ever.

That would make sense if he didn't golf before he was President. He owns golf courses for fucks sake.

Going out on and giving rallies isn't exactly the same as giving access to the media.

from: https://www.whitehousehistory.org/presidential-press-conferences

In his first two years, President Obama held 21 solo conferences, President George W. Bush 7, President Clinton 29, and George H.W. Bush 56 solo sessions. They had real variety in their use of the sessions. With technology constantly developing to bring the president even closer to the public, President Obama can choose to answer reporters in venues of his choice. Just as long as he holds press conferences from time to time. For President Obama who prefers answering questions in depth with one interviewer, his choice is to respond to reporters' queries in interview sessions, particularly televised ones. In his first two years, he held 269 such sessions compared with far fewer for his predecessors. There were 83 for President George W. Bush, 136 for President Clinton, and 87 for President George H. W. Bush. At the same time, President Obama has met relatively infrequently with reporters to give answers in short question and answer sessions. He answered a question or two on unfolding events and in response to other points on reporters' minds on 75 occasions while President George W. Bush held 243 and President Clinton 390.

It's somewhat old information, but he barely gave any speeaches in 17 and 18. It wasn't until the Covid issue that he was answering any questions in a real press conference that wasn't just him in front of the helicopter leaving. He hasn't been accessible to the media, let alone "never" has a President before him been more accessible. That's just demonstrably false.

i meant the other way around.
I didn't make that clear.
When i said more accessible, i should have said never has a president responded to the media and give focus to the media on an every day basis like Trump does.
He focuses way too much on every news networks tweet.

sorry for twisting that up. Never has a president felt the need to respond to every little thing, and do so in a format that leaves little room or option for rebuttal or follow up questions.

Gotcha. That makes much more sense. This I agree. He's an attention whore, which is saying a lot considering that's the #1 prerequisite for the job.
