By light strength training do you mean with weights?

Are carbs ok if it's wheat bread and wheat pasta and brown rice or is that going to cause weight gain?

I'm all about portions. I used to eat heaping plates, and was overfull. But, more recently I have been working on small portions and being just full or just under. There's like this line where you are like I could stop eating now and be fine. That's where I'm stopping. Or just before that.

I was pretty jarred by last test results. I have been trying to get better with my eating habits and exercise since my high blood pressure diagnosis. I have to do even better.

Both my parents passed away at 65. I'm trying to live longer than that.
Yeah the weight machines…..not free weights yet. Maybe eventually. My daughter’s college team trainer created a “Granny Circuit” he calls it. Just basically low reps on different machines for like 30 minutes….. nothing rigorous, just constant to keep my heart rate up and build up some muscle. Just to be active he said. I feel great after….. just gets the blood pumping. That and then 30 minutes on the treadmill to get the heart pumping. It has really helped. I’ll eventually move over to the stair master.

When it comes to details about nutrition, like your question about carbs, I’ll leave that to the experts. I don’t know enough about that. I have been spending a ton of time researching diet stuff though and watching videos on Instagram and it has really helped.

Wait, are these healthy chocolate bars or are you trolling us?
If chocolate is your think you should definitely check out the BareBelle pars. Actually damn good. My favorite is the cookies and cream. But they have like 20 different flavors. When in the past I would have had a bowl full of Oreos late at night, now I have one of those and I’m good to go….AND got 20 grams of protein.

Thats good that youre body is doing that though. I think it really all depends on the sugar. There are some really good ice creams out there, just like candy and most anything else, that are low carb and actually have a good amount of fiber. Theyre like 2-3 times the price of regular icecream though but are totally worth it when the cravings kick in. I’ll have to look at some of the good stuff that works for me and then share it here. Nuts are a good snack too (be nice). I buy a bag of cashews and/or the mixed nuts at least once a month at costco.
I have really noticed how much more expensive it is to eat healthy. It really sad actually, but i have no other options, I HAVE TO!!!!! If 6 months ago you showed me a picture of my shopping cart at Freddy’s from today….I would have laughed at you.

To each their own and please do your research. What I’m doing is working for ME. I will never eat nuts and seeds and grass like some people can…. I need real food every now and then. I have cut out all really bad stuff and it is working. When my wife makes chicken and pasta and salad, my dietician says I shouldn’t have any of the sauces and dressings, but I’m just having like HALF of the servings I used to or 1/4 the amount.

Learning to eat less and acknowledge when I feel full.

Please if I’m sharing anything that seems wrong, correct me…..I’m learning as I’m going.

I envy people who can do portion control. For me, I have to have my one big meal otherwise ill eat more throughout the day. But yes, we are all different. I think its great to share our ideas and what works. For me, I get tired of things after a while and like to try out new things. When I first got on this current journey, I was obsessed with this low carb cereal. I would go through a box every day. I think the brand was magic spoon. There was one flavor that was like crack to my pallet. The problem is it was $10-12 a box. I spent so much on that stuff for 3 months straight and then they stopped selling that specific flavor at my nearby stores so I moved on to something else. I also love eating rotisserie chicken.

We sure don't need refined sugar but we do need carbs. We evolved eating fruit, roots, nuts. Before humans had settled communities they were pounding seeds into meal for porridge.
Development of agriculture substituted grain base diet, often just one, for varied diet. With attendant problems.
Obesity isn't from eating legumes and whole grains..
It's really the refined processed carbs that are normally the issue. Sugar, wheat, maltodextrin, food starch, etc.

Whole fruit and veggies have fiber and other nutrients that delay blood sugar spikes.

Technically people might say they don't need carbs - as your body can run on keto. Can't survive without fat or protein at all though. But those type of carv diets are pretty extreme and likely not beneficial or healthy or pleasant for most people and not really needed.

Hey can’t thank you guys enough. When I’m feeling a little down about this whole process or questioning if I’m doing things right, I check this thread. Please keep sharing your process.
Side note: Last time I updated my weight, I had mentioned I had been back and fourth between 247-241lbs for about 5 weeks and it was getting to me. Getting frustrated….. didn’t weigh myself for a couple weeks and this morning I checked in at 236 even. Down from 305 in October and 333 during COVID…… damn good feeling.

I think I said before if I can do this…..ANYBODY here can. I know it!IMG_9159.jpeg

To try to make up for not drinking Pepsi everyday, the first 3 months i was drinking sparkling waters…. They worked. Got really tired of them though and barely have them anymore. But I do drink my Starbucks shaken black iced tea everyday…..keeps me going. None of the sweetener pumps, just Stevia.

And forgive indelicacy but those grains and vegetables and stuff are where you get fiber. Without which you can get seriously constipated.
Outlander fans might remember Jamie advising seriously constipated king of France who ate "high class" white bread, to try oat porridge. He was right.

Now you just gotta do something about your hairline! #BAM!

I was losing my hair. Even paid for Rogaine. Do you know they charge more for women's Rogaine than men's even though men's has higher concentration?
Actual problem, heat. I was using heat to get friz out. Daily. Decided if I have to choose between frizzy hair or no hair I will take the friz. Not as massively thick as it was in my young day but still have a lot and almost waist length.

The thing about Rogaine is, if you stop using it you lose your hair again.
