We'll stay #3 until we beat Stanford.

want to bet on that?

funny game thread read with the usual folks pissing their pants and spouting silly hyperbole. Great game for the Ducks! With the way they liberally rotate in waves of players from down the depth chart, if the opponent is "hanging in" at halftime, they're actually trailing because their talent is more worn out then Oregon's. DAT obviously isn't 100% yet but they've so much quality depth waiting behind him that it didn't matter. Marshall and Tyner are studs too and Marcus is one step closer to a Heisman. Loved the punt fake alla Michael Clay in the civil war a few years back.

I don't think we jump FSU in the BCS standings until we beat Stanford and our strength of schedule grows.

What could really hurt the Ducks is if the media starts believing their own hype and puts FSU ahead of us on the AP.

I'm really not worried about FSU... Miami is the last ranked opponent they've got.

your thinking will be proved wrong later today when the next BCS standings come out. The Ducks barely trailed FSU in last weeks BCS standings. The Nols played a tomato can (NC St) while Oregon beat the #12 team in the country. Oregon already led FSU in both the human polls which makes up 2/3rds of the BCS, now their Strength of Schedule will get a decent bump in the computer poll which makes up the other 1/3rd

The big question is why Alabama gets so much credit... who have they played? TAMU? Big whoop.

Defending 2x national champs. Until they lose they've earned the right to be considered the best in the nation.

That's not really how it should work though.... the rankings aren't supposed to reflect last season. Hell, a lot of very good players which contributed to Bama, and the Ducks, and LSU, are now in the NFL.

Supposed to? Human polls, like the AP & coach's, are on the face subjective which of course introduces all sorts of logical shortcomings. That Bama is pretty much a unanimous #1 despite having a weaker SOS then other undefeated teams is but one example of how wishy/washy ambiguous a system of determining the college football champion the BCS is. If Boise St. had played Bama's exact same schedule this season producing similar results, they'd be like #8. Heck, for the coaches poll it's been revealed a few times where the coach has some person from his staff/office fill out their ballot as they've next to no idea whats going on with other Saturday games. Why should they? They're focused almost exclusively on their team and the next opponent and have no time to spend on things so peripheral.

next year's changes won't make things perfect, but they'll be a step in the right direction. Whatever system is finally settled on is likely to be unfair in some way though

There really isn't a perfect system. At least with a playoff we'll have 4 slots to get a chance at the natty instead of just 2.
