Russia Vetoes U.N. Resolution Demanding Troop Withdrawal From Ukraine
China, India, and the United Arab Emirates abstain.

Russia on Friday vetoed a U.S.-backed U.N. Security Council resolution deploring its invasion of Ukraine, in a sign of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s growing isolation—but three countries abstained in the vote, at least in part to avoid antagonizing Moscow.

The resolution, which was co-sponsored by 81 countries, secured the support of 11 members of the council, with China, India, and the United Arab Emirates casting abstentions. The United States had to soften the language of the text to forestall the possibility of China casting a second veto, according to two diplomatic sources familiar with the negotiations.

The original draft demanded that Russia halt its offensive and withdraw its forces from Ukraine under Chapter 7 of the United Nations Charter, a legally binding provision that has been traditionally enforced through the imposition of sanctions or the use of force. Beijing indicated during negotiations that it would be easier to accept the adoption of a resolution passed under the less powerful Chapter 6. The United States and other backers of the resolution made the change.

The United States and its allies also offered more cosmetic changes, for instance, deploring rather than condemning Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The changes, however, were not sufficient to persuade India and the UAE to vote in favor of the resolution....................

Russia is going to get expelled from the UN over this conflict. There is already noise that they have an illegitimate seat because it was grandfathered in from the USSR

How many Ukrainians have you bumped into lately? You also have to realize Ukraine is pretty divided in it’s east-west portions amongst pro Russian and pro European mindsets. It’s not exactly a unified country rallying for a common goal, which complicates things immensely.

You're doing great Johnny; you found my mistype for "Putler"; keep up the good work!

Hey look we bumped into a Ukrainian, and you dismissed their perspective also.

That's very patriotic of you. I assume you will enjoy the freedum an installed puppet regime will offer you. I would not

Sorry for not wanting a world war in your hypothetical scenario. Must be a traitor.

You don't understand how my hypothetical scenario relates to what is actually happening in Ukraine and how you might feel about it if you were the one being invaded?

Your one-sentence, extremely oversimplified scenario doesn’t accurately represent what’s happening in Ukraine, dare I say.

Why not? You can be part of the separatists movement if that makes you feel better about it.

You’re talking about relatively new country, in terms of countries. There are many people there who are alive and well who predate it’s formation. It’s way different than the elementary comparison you are presenting. And you can stop hinting I’m some sort of traitor secessionist because of my anti-war position, you sound ridiculous and it’s not an accurate portrayal. Did you spit on Muslims after 9/11 also? Of course you didn’t, so stop with this.

Your the one who feels it's better to negotiate with an invading force for a puppet regime than to fight for your own freedoms. I'm not making any assertions, your words are painting their own pictures.

Haven't played this game in decades. We have it. I think it would be fun to pull out and play with the fam.

Actually you painted the picture by leading down a path of irrelevant hypothetical scenarios until you finally arrived at a “gotcha!” byte you felt was worth clinging onto and beating to death. You’ve managed to derail the conversation into a theory about my supposedly “questionable” allegiance to the country. Good work. You’re MSNBC now.

And you are changing the discussion by getting all upset with how I make my point and such avoiding the point. I tried to give you an example you could empathize with and you doubled down on your ridiculous position and tried to make me sound elementary and too simplistic to address. It's cool tho, you do you.

Why is Ukraine the West's Fault? Featuring John Mearsheimer.

Edit: This is a real eye opener.

t's 3:54 a,m, in Kiev. There is heavy fighting all over the city. The mayor and the former president are out in the streets with flak jackets and automatic rifles. 18.000 guns have been handed out to the citizens. They have been instructed on how to make molotov cocktails and where to hit a tank with them, I only hope i live to see the day Putin is assassinated or stands trial for war crimes.
