Honest question to somebody who seems to know what's going on here.....how does this affect/effect me? To somebody like me who isn't very informed, This feels no different than Afghanistan or Iraq or any other war on the other side of the world. This even less so because we aren't involved YET. But honestly how does this impact my daily life?

Gas prices and stuff going up mostly for now.

The Russians are attacking nuclear power plants over there which is stupid. Fortunately, they got the one that was on fire under control. If it's reactor had exploded it would have been 10x as worse as Chernobyl.

If Putin is truly crazy, it could be World War III...like getting Nukes sent at us and everywhere. Full nuclear war. Not there yet, but if he loses in Ukraine or Russia is fucked enough by the sanctions he might push the button.

The threat is global thermo-nuclear war. Essentially the end of humanity as we know it. I don't think that will happen, but it's certainly a possibility with a wack job like Putin.

If he gets pushed into a corner with no way out it's a very real possibility he pushes the button.

Well, this could get nuclear. And it can reshape the world.

This could also affect your daily life through more inflation and higher energy costs.
I could care less about inflation and energy costs. Price of gas and all that shit. I've been very happy not having to hear about the delay bullshit being spewed by our last president, and would pay even more for things to keep nut jobs like that out of the limelight.

Cracks me up seeing Trump supports complaining about the price of milk.

It doesn't affect me much either. $20 extra for every tank of gas doesn't put me in the poor house. But for some, it will.

I'm not saying I can afford inflation, I'm just saying I can cope. If that's the worst thing that can happen. I know, I know, nuclear war.....the 1960s called. You can't go around worrying about nuclear war. Cause if that shit happens, it's OVER! HA! At least we wouldn't have to worry about our draft position this year.

Haven't read this thread and don't follow politics like this as much as I should, so tell me, are there any people who support Russia doing this? Do the Trump Supporters/Pro Guns/Anti-Vax/Anti-Abortion/Pro book burners side with Russia on this........ or is everyone unified in how bad this is?
Fox has been very pro-Putin for years and was so up to maybe two days ago when polling showed where the entire world and a vast majority of Americans stood. Trump came out following the initial invasion calling Putin (his bank & owner) a genius. Trump, Rupert's media & those wingnuts are all scrambling to find their new stance now.

In this thread? Few support Russia. In the US at large? Support for Russia is frightenly common. Putin is some kind of hero to Trump-tramps and the "religious" right.

The scary thing are the hypersonic nukes. Russia's got them. China's got them. We've got them. That's it. And China's are the most advanced.

We should be scared of China though. They are just sitting back waiting for us to start nuking each other, then they'll step in and rule the world.

See post 1287.

or Trump's!

I think it would have happened under Hillary's though!
That's my point, I would rather have wars on the other side of the world and inflation here than have Trump be our president. His daily bullshit was affecting/effecting my family more than what's going on over seas.

Yet I'm not as worried about it as I was of the daily shit storm that was raining down on us for the past 5 years.

Mostly unified against Russia, a few are starting to fall for the propaganda to muddy the waters. Which is mostly trying to equivoque this to Afghanistan, Yemen and Iraq. Also people are getting worked up on the racism angle of only caring about white countries. There is also we need to care about the Russian conscripts who don't know they are there but are still fighting for some reason. There is also, we should just let them have Ukraine because it's better than what is going on.

Forgot to add the line about how the US is just trying to sell weapons

I honestly think China is only in this for their own financial interests. I don't think they use this to take Taiwan as sanctions would kill them and it's not worth it. If Russia launches nukes I don't think China supports that then Russia is really fucked which hopefully keeps Russia from doing that

Lindsay Graham both tweeted and said on Fox News that someone in Russia needs to assassinate Putin.

Matt Gaetz and Ilhan Omar have both criticized him on Twitter. It takes a lot to be able to get those two to agree on something.

China could cut off the world in a second.

First question yes
Second question no

The extrajudicial killing of Osama bin Laden was controversial in that military acted as judge, jury and executioner, not because anyone mourned him. Extrajudicial killing of Putin, a head of state, is act of war. I would not mourn him either but US is not going to do it.

How does it affect you? John Donne said no person is an island and Martin Luther King said injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere. And weakening democracy in Ukraine weakens other democracies.

Who is enforcing mask mandates on the battlefields?
