It's painfully obvious we should be ramping up nuclear power generation in every country, using mechanical energy storage to handle peak demand wherever possible.

If even then. Fossil fuel companies have done an amazing job of tricking people into thinking solar and wind are great (because you'll still need fossil fuel for peaks).

If we'd have just kept up with nuclear we'd be so much further ahead...

I agree. I also believe that liberals are the ones primarily responsible for our country not keeping up with nuclear development.

I'm going to disagree there. Over dependence on any one source is a bad idea.

Why? Were liberals the only ones to see that the reality of nuclear power had not kept up with the hype?

To work, you have to have a system that guarantees that plants are designed, built, and operated safely. You also need to do the same with disposal of the waste. There is ZERO room for compromise, cutting corners, or putting profit before safety. The risks involved are too serious to be ignored.

There wouldn't be any one nuclear source. There would be thousands. And you would use solar, wind, tidal, geothermal, and hydro power as well as mechanical storage to handle to handle peaks.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, cleanest, and safest form of energy generation we have. Relying on it to handle the bulk of our power generation is only logical. And we have enough fuel already mined to last the whole world 300 years.

Ample time to perfect fusion.

The question isn't why would we rely on nuclear, it's why in world did we let them talk us into scaling back the nuclear build out?

The US military has never had an accident with any of their nuclear reactors.

We know exactly how to do it, and we have seen it done safely for nearly a century.

There is no problem with storage. We know exactly how to dispose of it. In fact, disposing of nuclear waste generates tons of power.

Russia is the first Navy in history to have its flag ship sunk in battle....by an enemy not currently operating any ships.

I suspect one day this operation will be declassified and we're learn how NATO helped make this happen because that thing was limiting what Ukraine could do with their drones and other high tech equipment. Its of course a great victory for morale, but I think this is a bigger practical victory than we know.

I also wouldn't be surprised if NATO electronic counter-measures were used to help Neptune along, but the official word is going to be "The UA fooled them with drones," when in reality if you look at the capabilities of that ship it probably should have been able to fight off those cruise missiles without too much of a problem. Of course, this is speculation, but the first launch of Neptune results in a major victory like this? It just seems fishy.

I also think this is a message to the Russian military that Russian high tech toys will be met with NATO high tech toys and Russia escalating with their newest stuff will just cost them their newest stuff. Which incentivizes predictable and slow moving low tech warfare and ideally peace talks. Ideally, Russia will ask for peace once they realize they can't get any new ground and limiting them whenever they bring their newest arms out is going to be a way to help make that happen because those arms simply won't help them make progress.​

You can guarantee that the US has assets on the ground assisting in the big punches. You think all this tech and weaponry that's being brought in is being dropped off by FedEx with just a user manual. Nah. You've got some sort of Tier SMU operators that's being sent along with the aid packages. And they know where the equipment needs to be deployed and how. And if reports were coming that this ship was a major blocker to those combat multiplers, you can bet the west is pre-planning these events. You don't just send billions of dollars worth of aid to a nation and hope they are good. You send aids who understand the battlefield and how those assets can be deployed. If that ship was running interference and Ukraine couldn't use some of the aid, well... I guarantee you US intel instructed Ukraine on where and what they needed to target to get their tech in the air (I.e. drones) unimpeded.

I mean, the Russian military has proven to be a paper tiger, but if anyone thinks Ukraine is pulling all the levers without any help on the ground and has essentially defeated a complete encirclement from the north, east, and south... where massive columns of Russians drove straight down from Belarus... and they stalled every Russian front... Nah. The west is obviously aiding them with more than just aid packages. Assets are on the ground feeding intel and making sure the aid that is sent is operational. No doubt about it.

Anonymous Targets Vladimir Putin, Claim To Have Hacked Into Kremlin's Spy Satellite

The hacking collective organization Anonymous claims that they have successfully hacked the Kremlin's spy satellite program and say they used Russian tools to do it.

The Anonymous affiliated hacker group Network Battalion 65 (NB65) shared tweets and alleged files of server information from the Russian space agency Roscomos, claiming that Russian President Vladimir Putin "no longer has control over spy satellites."

After investigating the stolen files by cybersecurity, experts suggests that NB65 were actually able to make a modified version of Conti, a form of ransomware virus used by Russian hackers to allegedly steal money from hospitals and health services across Ireland, Europe as well as the United States.

They claim that they have been able to turn the system against Russian space satellites.

Roscosmos' chief and one of Putin's closest allies Dmitry Rogozin denied the claims, calling the hacking collective "scammers" and nothing but a group of "petty swindlers."

In a response to the report, Rogozin tweeted: "All our space activity control centers are operating normally."

However, after an analysis of the leaked files by Intezer Analyze, the organization has claimed that the Anonymous hackers have used "65% of the source code" of Conti and have indeed been able to break into Roscosmos to steal files.

The attack comes as part of an intensifying campaign by Anonymous against Russia as the country's invasion of Ukraine continues to escalate in unsettling ways.

Reports have been coming out of Russian military leaders ordering for soldiers to open fire on Ukrainian citizens as well as invading troops writing notes of revenge on the sides of missiles fired at local train stations filled with refugees.

Anonymous declared a 'cyber war' with Russia in February shortly after the invasion began.

The group took credit for taking down the website of Russia Today, the country's main state broadcaster, early Thursday morning.

They've also gone on to target the websites of the Russian government, the Kremlin, and the Russian defense ministry.

The Anonymous affiliated group NB65 released a message on the hacked Russian website which read, "We warned you that no internet-facing technology is off-limits to us. We've warned you repeatedly that until you stop we will press harder and harder until we cripple every single piece of tech, every information system, and every network we find."

Nowhere near my first choice, but this train wreck has provided massive aid to Ukraine, overseen vaccination of basically everyone but MAGA die hard antivaxxers, presided over massive job growth. Stood up for transgender Americans, which makes at least one person here unhappy. Got a vastly qualified Supreme Court justice confirmed in the face of racist misogynist obstruction.
