Congresswoman Becca Solnit (D-Vermont) on Republicans siding with Putin.
“Russia invaded the sovereign nation of Ukraine. Vladimir Putin is the aggressor, and I stand here on the House floor to say our president will not re-write the past,” said the fiery Vermonter.

“It’s sick. We are standing with dictators and against our allies? I never thought I would see the day when our president would be a puppet for a dictator.”

“To my Republican colleagues, did you ever imagine that you would be in a party that stands on the sides of dictators, or on the side of a country who kills journalists? With an authoritarian accused of war crimes. A man who assassinates his political opponents!

"Aren't you embarrassed by what you've become? It's revolting to watch my colleagues side with Russia because Trump said so.”

Apparently, Trump is making an economic deal with Russia. Probably, he'll help Putin take Russia for rights to precious minerals and such from Ukraine that Ukraine refused to hand over in earlier "deal" talks.

Lol. When’s the last time they held an election in your little ‘free world’? Last time I checked the midget dictator had cancelled them.

Claim: Zelensky is a 'dictator without elections'
Trump initially drew attention to the fact that Ukraine has not held a presidential election since 2019, when Zelensky - previously a comedian with no political base - swept to power.

He repeated the claims in a Truth Social post in which he accused the Ukrainian leader of being a "dictator without elections".

Zelensky's first five-year term of office was due to come to an end in May 2024. However, Ukraine has been under martial law since the Russian invasion in February 2022, which means elections are suspended.

Ukraine's martial laws were drafted in 2015 - shortly after Russia annexed the Crimean Peninsula and years before Zelensky and his Servant of the People party came to power.

Independent observers from the OSCE said the 2019 election had been "competitive and fundamental freedoms were generally respected".

Zelensky won 73% of the vote in the second-round run-off.

Zelensky has vowed to hold a new election once the conflict ends and has yet to confirm that he intends to stand. Some experts have observed that holding elections in Ukraine before the conflict ends would be practically impossible, as Russian attacks on many cities persist and millions of citizens are displaced abroad or living under Russian occupation.

Trump's intervention on the subject came just hours after the Kremlin questioned Zelensky's legitimacy as his term in office has ended, a claim Moscow has repeatedly made in the past months. On 28 January, Russia's President Vladimir Putin called Zelensky "illegitimate" in an interview with Russian media.

Referring to the electoral situation, Trump appeared aware that it had been a frequent Russian allegation used to undermine Zelensky, saying in his news conference: "That's not a Russian thing, that's something coming from me, from other countries."

For his part, Zelensky has previously said it would be "absolutely irresponsible to throw the topic of elections" in the middle of the conflict.

Right. It’s true. Thank you.

Considering that the Ukranian parliament has been continually extending the martial law decree since May 2022, it would be inaccurate to say that Zelenskyy cancelled the 2024 election--parliament did.

jonnyboy is right, the midget dictator did cause the Ukrainian elections to be cancelled.

Say his name: Vladimir Putin

barfo

Vladimir is seven feet tall for your information

Zelensky is 5'7 so for a Ukranian he's just slightly below average height but I guess it was one way to sneak a politically incorrect adjective into a post. Avg height in Ukraine is 5'9...avg height for a male in Taiwan is 5'7...average height for a male in Wyoming is 5'7-''9 so I guess somebody is calling avg Wyoming male residents Munchkins? Big troll fail for the loss. Oregon and Washington also have a 5'7-5'9 avg male height. johnnyboy is watching too much NBA obviously and conflating that with giant Muricans! The Dutch are the tallest Europeans by avg. stats. Macron is 5'6 and Putin is said to be in high shoes officially 5'7 but unofficially 5'2...not a lot of tall world leaders it turns out. Trump likes to make fun of men who are shorter than him..makes sense his admirers would follow suit. It's a bully thing.

I really don't understand why so much effort is being put into correcting information from a user who has no reason not to be permabanned already. What does he have on you guys that you bend over backwards for him so much?

Were they already banned under a different username? Bodyman5000? Blue32?

Unfortunately no one on the Trump team will ever read this truth-telling, and if they did they would dismiss it. We are living in dark times in USA.

I don’t think bans are instituted based on the fact of whether you personally think they should be or not.

Zelenskyy should have stood up, told Trump he wasn't going to be chastised and verbally abused in front of the media and then walked out. Europe still seems committed to supporting Ukraine. Let it continue to be a war of attrition. Russia is bleeding out at least as fast as Ukraine. But I think Zelenskyy will win more support from the American public by spitting in Trump's face rather than knuckling under to an arrogant dumbshit.

Zelenskyy has not knuckled under to anyone. He no doubt could spit in Trump's ugly face but he is being the adult and behaving with some degree of dignity.
And yes, bringing his case before the American people.

And when Trump dies in 2027 Vance takes over. And then he can run for two more terms...
The only way Vance gets to be president is if Trump bites it before the 2028 election. Vance is a rude and toxic asshole but he's no Trump and the MAGAt base knows it. Trump won't even endorse him and keeps him on a short leash. Once Trump is gone his base is headless. He has made sure that he has no heir apparent because of his own insecurities. He doesn't trust anyone enough. Even Musk is going to find that one out the hard way. Vance is barely clinging to Trump's coattails.

I sincerely hope you are right. And I hope we have enough rights left that we can recover when that happens.

Putin is smiling right now I can tell you that

fuck Trump, I can’t wait till our military starts the coup since our congress is also compromised
Ehh... Isn't he firing anybody who isn't on board with what he's doing? Including military leadership?
