Me too. Just watched it and it makes me proud that the team I support is taking care if its people. I’m happy that you and your family will have less to worry about while we wait this thing out.
 
My sister is a self employed caterer and she has lost her income. No unemployment. She has savings for a couple of weeks, not months.
 
When people can’t gather, lots of jobs suddenly become illegal.

I work in the events industry for a major corporation, they have pared some non-essential types, but are keeping most of us on for the time being. That being said, they way this shit is going, nobody knows what to expect day by day, hell hour by hour. Rapidly changing variables from all angles.

I also work on a day rate for a local theater doing production management, they are basically shutting the doors until fall at the earliest. They just refunded 500k worth of tickets and cancelled every show they had for months. Laying off most full timers, keeping a couple at half pay to keep the pipes from freezing. From 40 employees to 5 overnight.

My side hustle supplying techs for events vanished. I don’t have much overhead so there isnt an ongoing loss, but I’m losing the income till this shakes out.

I am one of the lucky ones in this industry that still has a job, I’d say 90% of backstage labor type jobs disappeared over the course of 2 or 3 days.

Also, I work with quite a few local lighting/audio/etc production houses. At least half of them probably won’t come out the other side of this without massive government help, most people leverage their assets to get loans for the newest gear, or buy a larger warehouse for example, and if the timing was weird last week, they already got crushed by the loan payments.

and then, for all the general stagehand types...no gigs, no money. Lots of freelance, 1099 type shit before. Not much to fall back on. Lots of peeps with families and bills to pay.

brutal shit. I’m gonna start charging for blowjobs, been giving them away for free all this time. Batter up!

I am retired but ironically if I wanted to go back to work would be in demand.

Not interested.

But I worked my way through college as a phlebotomist and you never lose the touch. If hospital staff can't keep up with demand, not yet there locally, I could volunteer. So far in California we don't have enough tests or supplies, but patients are spread out geographically enough so no hospital is overwhelmed. Yet

HCP, that is great.

My work calendar has been completely wiped clean with all this going on. Usually in my industry if you lose some work, you can reach out and find something else, but with EVERY sport being shutdown, I got nothing. I have friends around the country right now freaking out.
If I get the max each week from unemployment and don’t spend one dime of it, at the least our mortgage will be covered.
Going to be some interesting times.
I have been poor for quite a long time in my 20s.....my wife and kids have not had that humbling experience.
Have already started cutting back. Canceling some services and memberships. Didn’t turn the heat on the last few nights. Trying to teach my family that every cent counts.
This whole experience will change me....... Like I said, I’ve been poor, and swore it would never happen again.
I truly hope nobody is going through the same because of all this. This shit has gotten VERY real, VERY quick.

If you or others end up in this situation, I'd call your mortgage lender and tell them you need to pause making payments. Sometimes you can add extra payments at the end many years from now. Save cash to buy food medical emergencies. Nobody will be foreclosed soon. I'd do the same for a big car loan or better yet get rid of any car worth over $5k
 
I’m already one of the lucky ones with a back end for the time being, trying to get some money in the front door, if you know what I mean.

Politics aside, I really hope that Trump turns out lucky with the smoke he was blowing about the malaria drug and antibiotic. We desperately need some stroke of luck like that or this thing is going to take months to run its course and by then we may be talking Great Depression levels of economic collapse.

In this one instance, him being “fortunate” ( sorry for the disturbing imagery) would only be because of something that would be a tremendous blessing to humanity.

Really poor attitude to have at a time like this, reminds me of Bill Maher wishing for the economy to crumble just to spite Trump. Never mind the millions being affected.

I realize you were probably joking but a lot of people really have these attitudes. Check out twitter. I honestly believe there are people out there pining for this to get worse just so they can have the smug satisfaction of saying ‘I told you so’. The depths of people’s contempt can be scary.

I don’t think this needs to get worse for Trump to look like a gigantic idiot and firmly cement his place as the worst leader in American history who failed the entire country during its most pressing time. Nobody wants this to “get worse”. He has fucked himself plenty already

NO, blanket checks should not be written, but there are some who make more than others, who will still be in the same exact situation.

im completely fine financially. I think the bailouts should be for the restaurant works and those type of folks who are losing their job and shit because of this.

stimulating the economy in a time when it’s going to shit is the obvious purpose
