I asked my agent the other day why the uninsured motorist rates are so damn high now? He said, over 20% of the accidents in Oregon are caused by these guys.
Further inquiry yields some interesting data.
Nearly 10% of Oregon drivers are uninsured.
Around 15% of California drivers are uninsured. That is more drivers than Oregon has people.
The fine for driving uninsured is less in both states than I pay for simple liability and the obligatory uninsured motorist coverage. uh, it sort of makes sense, especially if you can just leave and come back with another name.
