I'm with you. As an example of todays generation, my ex daughter in laws brother went to college under a baseball scholarship, quit, had a few meaningless jobs and lives at home with his parents. He has no motivation to work and he depends on mom and dad for his meals and shelter. He is an example of what I mentioned. I'm sure you had heard of these bums and I hope your vision of today's generation is the true point of the over achievers.

oh god. Cool story of an isolated example.

Ive been busting my ass since I was 15 years old, I haven’t been unemployed for more than a month since that age. And worked side jobs for people to make cash if and when I was unemployed. Admittedly, I wasn’t the best with my money through my teens and twenties and didn’t save as much as I should. Mostly young parents trying to get by and not a lot left over to save. I’ve just recently been in a position to finally buy a home, but this pandemic fueled market manipulation and wealth transfer has severely fucked that up. All the money I’ve saved is sitting in my bank account losing value with inflation while home prices continue to rise and more people are being given stimulus cash while every business under the sun has a help wanted sign in the window. I’m about to just drop everything on a chunk of land that’ll at least hold some asset value. I feel like I’m working for Monopoly money. I really feel like a second class of citizens is being created. Rent paying workers with no chance of ever creating their own wealth. And it’s by design with the governments blessing. I realize times were tough in certain ways ‘back in the day’ but at least you could own a home with a regular job.

You won't regret buying land dude...it's always been monopoly money but real estate has been fueled by get rich quick real estate agents and massive forest fires destroying hundreds of thousands of homes on the west coast....not the pandemic. You could once buy a brand new car for 750 bucks when my dad was a kid...now it's 35K.....I was going to say if you buy land...put in a power line, well and a septic and wait to build a house until the prices of lumber go down or do what Elon Musk did...he sold his Beverly Hills mansion and moved a 50k modular kit home to live in...it's pretty slick little unit...when you have land you can add on later...make sure you have water and are not buying in a flood plain...you will love having your own land..some states have class K housing codes so you can put up a cabin on post and pier foundation...I'm not building anything now until lumber prices and hardware prices drop down...I can't even order custom sized doors and windows now as they haven't produced new ones for 18 months and are back ordered like crazy..told myself next year I'll try that again

This is a direct result of the fiat money the FED is printing.

As bad as it's been, it's going to get much worse for a while.

I had a paper route at 12. I remember Sunday mornings waking up and it would take 5 sometimes 6 trips on my BMX bike to deliver.

There’s lazy people in every generation. They used to just get labeled as hippies and free spirits.

Will UPS let you bring home a package car on weekends?

I started working when I was 10. Haven't been unemployed since then except for physical service connected handicapped reasons for over 60 years since.Started out mowing lawns, then sold newspapers, moved because my family moved so had to return to mowing lawns. sold flowers door to door, went into construction with my father, joined the Army, got out handicapped because of the war, recovered partially, got a job at Tektronix, worked there every summer until I graduated in engineering, returned to Tektronix as an engineer. Had other jobs as an engineer until I was unable to work for paricipating in the war and now retired.
Do I blame others for being unemployed? No, others may have lots of different reasons, legitimate reasons, for being unemployed.

Was it up hill both ways?
Mine was. I had to work the Forest Heights area near Monkey Ward's. Steep hills and clients that stiffed me, others that paid me very late. Also, not many clients in that area so hard work for little money made worse by subscribers who stiffed me. Lousy area for a boy's paper route.
