Pet peeve: Politicians who get stuff named after them while they're still alive.
e.g. The Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier, the
OHSU Mark O. Hatfield Research Center, the John C. Stennis Space Center, the Blumenauer Bridge.

Are you implying the government should “take them out” and then name stuff after them?

That totally sucks..... a 30-year mortgage for $200K at 8% (a reasonable mortgage interest rate in 1999) would result in a monthly payment of $1,468. At an interest rate closer to today's rates (3.2%), the monthly payment would be $865. Property and interest only, in both scenarios.

Using these same interest rates and the above amounts of $105K and $490K, the monthly payments would be $770 (1999) versus $2,119.

But that's why you're pretty much always advised to invest in real estate. And if you ever listened to guidance telling you otherwise, you are a fool.
