They’re raising prices because they can – and they can because they don’t face meaningful competition.
As the White House National Economic Council put it in a December report: “Businesses that face meaningful competition can’t do that, because they would lose business to a competitor that did not hike its margins.”

Starbucks is raising its prices to consumers, blaming the rising costs of supplies. But Starbucks is so profitable it could easily absorb these costs – it just reported a 31% increase in yearly profits. Why didn’t it just swallow the cost increases?

Ditto for McDonald’s and Chipotle, whose revenues have soared but who are nonetheless raising prices. And for Procter & Gamble, which continues to rake in record profits but is raising prices. Also for Amazon, Kroger, Costco and Target.

No disrespect to Robert Reich, but I think he's off base on his examples here. There are lots of coffee shops, restaurants, packaged goods, grocery stores, and department stores other than the ones listed here. The only one I think you can make an plausible antitrust case against is Amazon.

Biden's Real Challenge Is Not Russia or China, But Poverty in America

The average American continues to struggle against encroaching poverty, inflation, and lack of future prospects.

https://www.commondreams.org/views/...challenge-not-russia-or-china-poverty-america

Here are some sobering numbers: 56% of all Americans cannot produce a meager $1,000 as an emergency expense from their existing savings, CNBC reported; 1 in 10 US adults have gone hungry last December as a result of poverty, Forbes.com reported; Columbia University Center on Poverty and Social Policy revealed that child poverty rate in the US stands at 17%, "one of the highest among developed countries."

America is run by the most corrupt and cruel people, ever.

This was quite interesting.

That's one Billion. If you are worth $200 Billion then it's the same as paying an extra 50 cents. Now 50 cents means something to some people while a $1 Million means nothing to Bezos. The guy worth $100,000.00 has rent, utilities, medical bills etc. etc. which Bezos won't even miss from his bank account not matter how expensive champagne, real caviar, Rolls Royce and so on cost.
Thanks for the kick in the teeth, Trump.
This is important to me even though technically I am a multi Millionaire.

Sanders Vows 'Strong Solidarity' for Multi-State Amazon Worker Walkout.

"If Jeff Bezos can afford a $500 million yacht, a $23 million mansion with 25 bathrooms, and a rocket ship to blast a comedian to outer space, you know what?" said the U.S. senator. "Amazon can afford to give its employees a $3 raise."

Here is someone who gives a shit about people. If only Biden gave as much of a shit, American workers might just stand a chance at getting better pay and working conditions.
