Has Sessions shown enough to warrant a big payday? I have to admit that I haven't watched him at all.
I'm planning to do a bigger post on this, but I've always had a theory about young point guards and what they do in the last month or two of the season being a great indicator of future performance. Especially guys in their 2nd or 3rd season. I looked at the stats of a lot of guys and three stood out for me this season. Using this info has predicted Jose Calderon and Devin Harris would be successful and that Sebastian Telfair would not for example.
Anyway, the three this year are: Ramon Sessions, Ray Felton and Mike Conley
Since the all star break:
Sessions 13.6 pts, 4.2 rebounds, 7.5 assists in 31 minutes
Conley: 14.5 pts, 3.7 rebounds, 5.6 assists in 36 minutes
Felton: 15.4 pts, 3.4 rebounds, 6.7 assists in 37 minutes
For comparison's sake:
Andre Miller: 16.8 pts, 4.9 rebounds, 6.7 assists in 36 minutes
Steve Blake: 10.6 pts, 2.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists in 32 minutes
Per minute, Sessions was excellent over the last 2.5 months of the season. He got 1.4 pts less than Miller per 48. equal in rebounds. 2.6 better in assists.
He also averaged 1.5 steals per game.
I like him a lot and I think he'll be well worth a decent payday. Luckily, he's a restricted free agent, so we can maybe force Milwaukie into a sign and trade?
