You're right, I should have just said, our only chance is if the Spurs is without Wemby.
But the weird thing is, I just realized maybe we shouldn't pencil in the Blazers out, even with Wemby. Because Experience and Deni. Both teams have no playoff experience, but individually, we have the edge. What if Deni was giving us appetizer all season and announce himself as a superstar in this series? I still think their talent and defense prevails but I won't be surprised if we put on a fight.
It’s been a great debate thinking about facing the Spurs versus facing the Thunder. On one hand with the spurs the first thing you look at is an overall lack of playoff experience and youth. On the other hand they have a legitimate candidate for the future GOAT.
I agree, this is where guys like Jrue, and yes, Dame - can be big influencers in the series with their veteran leadership and experience. Either reeling things in if it gets out of control, or keeping composure and closing out games.
I would by no means pencil us out. We are about to see what we look like defensively under the microscope of playoff basketball. We shouldn’t forget how defensively efficient this team is capable of being in their own right.
I’m more worried about Wemby on the defensive end than the offensive end. He’s going to get his on offense in ways that nobody in the league can stop. The concern is about his impact on the glass, and protecting the paint.
I think we should use Donovan on high screens like we often do, that he should get 3-4 3pt attempts in the first game at least. Keep Wemby out of the paint and force their smaller back and front court to beat us on the glass. Really any way you can keep Wemby outside of the paint on defense is a plus, but the dude can also recover so quickly, and his length is also ridiculous. He could guard a high screen and a Clingan 3, and also recover to block Deni in the paint.
At the end of it all I’m glad to see us trending in a positive direction. Hope we bring it on the defensive end, because if we play to our potential that is how we will win this series. And I look forward to a playoff series where we see some of the best young talent in the west competing against each other. Two teams you would expect to face each other in the playoffs again down the road with their current trajectories.
