WHAT HAPPENED TO THE WHISTLEBLOWER STATUTE/PROTECTION!?!?!

So legal citizens are fired from their jobs in the United States for helping law enforcement enforce the laws of the United States. Is that right?

So you guys think it's OK for government workers to conduct unauthorized investigations into matters they are not qualified nor trained for?? Why don't we have federal egg inspectors go to stake outs on suspected arms dealers? Why not post EPA officials as border guards?

Compiling the list was illegal and distributing the list to the media was illegal. There are proper channels for this sort of thing.

If they were sworn to protect confidentiality then their termination is completely reasonable, you sign your name or take an oath to do something and you do the opposite it's kind of a no brainer your gonna get canned. Bringing criminal charges seems to far if all they did was list names though, unless they were explicitly told charges would be brought if they broke confidentiality.

I think they broke the law by compiling the list and dispersing it to the media. I'm sure I would face the same charges if I made a list (which contained sensitive info) of suspected drug dealers in my community and released it to the TV station.

I think the title of this thread is misleading. It should read "Utah Workers fired for alleged Illegal Immigrant information"

Absolutely they should be canned. LOL.

A recent ABC 4 poll showed that 83% of the population doesn’t think criminal charges should be brought against the state workers who allegedly distributed the list.

Strangely enough, 83% of the men in Utah also think they should be allowed to have multiple wives. (I KID I KID)

Seriously though, I bet they would change their mind if it was a list of who was behind in their mortage payment... who had unpaid traffic citations... who was suspected of having multiple wives ;) You get the picture.

The is not a whistleblower... they stole private government information and distributed it to the press. Not all that different different than Bradley Manning.

DHS programs fall under Confidentiality guidelines.

confidentiality for who? people who don't exist?

as far as the US is concerned, illegal aliens do not exist!

these people on the list are alleged illegal aliens. There hasn't been an investigation into their visa status yet.

If I released a list of alleged drug dealers with your private info included how would you feel?

It's not a proper comparison. One accusation would land you in prison. The other would merely get you deported. Being a drug dealer is difficult to disprove. Being a legal citizen couldn't be easier to prove.

OK, If I released a list of alleged illegal aliens with your private info (including SS#, babies due date, etc...) included how would you feel? You could say "Look, here's my visa. I'm here legally", but that doesn't change the fact that your private info has been released to the public.

Being a legal citizen couldn't be easier to prove.

Tell that to the Birthers.

An illegal alien wouldn't have a SSN.

Tell that to the Birthers.

Cute. However, you're smarter than that comment. You know why it's in President Obama's interest to withhold the conclusive evidence.

The list these ladies releases included SSN for some people. What about the other private info on the list??

It doesn't bother you that they compiled a list like this and released it publicly? It just seems like a lot of grandstanding and vigilantism

DHS programs fall under Confidentiality guidelines.

Do the confidentiality guidlines apply only to US citizens? I am asking that as a real question. if they do, then these women might not have done anything wrong. If these ladies at the DHS released info on Arab's illegally in the country suspected of terrorism, would they still be in trouble? Illegal is illegal, right?

Any form of information given out violates confidentiality. If an officer comes to me and asks even if someone is a client, I cant even confirm that for them.

If someone has a SSN and it's not faked, then they're citizens.

As for being bothered, I'm more bothered by illegal aliens being protected by from deportation by the government.

Wait, Maxie. Are you a Birther?

No. I'm saying that those people have asked for reasonable information to be supplied. The reason it hasn't is that by keeping this narrative going, it shows those people to be complete kooks. It's in President Obama's interested to keep the Birthers front and center.

Not trying to be nitpicky. But there are Lawful Permanent Residents who have valid Social Security numbers... but they arent citizens. I'm not saying that the report had them in it... but that would piss me off as a lawful resident, if my info was in this report.

Do you work at the DHS?

Is there some sort of protocol for reporting people you think are in the U.S. illegally?

Nope. Any information we are given is strictly confidential. Without a clients consent to give any information... we would violate policies and guidelines, by giving any info out. I forget how, but I believe it is under HIPAA guidelines.

So there is no safe guard for preventing illegal aliens from getting food stamps and other kinds of assistance?

Cool. Thanks for the correction. I didn't know that piece of info. Repped.
