Delta is finally getting around to compensating me for our debacle of trip to Italy in May. To recap they delayed our flight to Paris, which made us miss a connection and caused us to miss an entire day at our destination and then the lost our luggage for 4 days, when get finally got the luggage mine was broke. On the way home they changed planes at the last second, which meant they had 1/2 as much premium seats available, so we were downgraded to standard coach for an 11 hour flight at premium pricing. I did get a partial refund on the ticket but I had to ask for it. We chose premium seats for a reason though, my father is old and has mobility issues and we are both pretty tall, so to be downgraded for that leg was pretty tough to deal with.... we really needed that space, it took days for my dad to recover. Anyway looks like Delta is finally getting around to their backlog of complaints because I got some emails this last week and so far have $750 (each) in various flight credits now. I saved receipts for clothes I bought in the first 4 days so, Ill have another $200 or so coming to me. Moral of the story is to always file a complaint when you have issues, be mindful of how you word things because they have limits and some discretion on how much you get. Also, always save recipts when the lose your baggage, you get reimbursed and they count on people not knowing that, its a great time to go shopping.

Planning a 2-week road trip for next Fall. We rent a vehicle in Denver, then on to Jackson Hole, Tetons, and Yellowstone. On up to Banff. Coming back we'll get to Deadwood (my Uncle was once Mayor of Deadwood) and Mt. Rushmore. etc. Then back to Denver.

WE LOVE ROAD TRIPS!!

Where is the stop at the Acropolis to have a beer with a cat?

Any good sites for last minute deals? I have time off Oct 1-5, looking to go somewhere for a good deal. Not trying to spend too much.

Keeping in mind its still technically hurricane season in the atlantic/gulf.

Options so far:

Playa del Carmen
Cabo
Hawaii (flights were kinda expensive so we scrapped)
Miami/Florida Keys
Boston/New England/Salem (haloween vibes)

After Rushmore as you head south check out the wind caves and the mammoth museum in hot springs SD. Both worth stops.

I just booked to Kona for $291 about an hour ago. Sucks I have to drive across the island, but hey.... I don't have to pay for a hotel!

We've never been to the PV area. Doing a bday trip for Mrs SPD. I promised her something nice and easy because we're planning another archeology trip in Feb but this time deep in the jungles of Guatemala.

Damn man. Mrs. SPD already puts in work going deep into the wilderness that is your butt. Now you are making her go deep into Guatemala too?!?

Lol my boss did one of those with Mel Gibson like 10 years ago

Do you keep a car there or rent?

We have a Jeep Grand Cherokee in our garage. Had it shipped over from Oregon. That car feels like it was made to drive those roads like Mercedes autos are meant to drive on the Autobahn. As much as I hate to admit it, we’re looking at vans as a second vehicle to keep there. We often have a few extra guests, so having a car that can haul 7-8 would be great (plus a second car, plus the extra cargo space). I’d really like to find an el Camino and take that over and send the Jeep back over here. I’d settle for a small pickup, but el Camino would be pimp.

Nice and easy? Well, she’s got one of two with you?

(Goes without saying, but OB will tell us all you’re not nice!)

My oldest son had a restored el camino in San Luis Obispo he drove for years...he restores classic cars and sells them as a hobby. He's doing a mid 60s Chevy short bed truck now with all the trimmings like power steering ..brand new motor...running gear...it looks amazing. I'd think a van is way more Hilo than a moving swimming pool though...when it rains in Hilo it rains brah

Im finally getting around t0 going through my photos from my Italy trip in April. Im experimenting with some filters and cropped things to make them pop a little better. I usually like to print off some of my best trip photos onto canvas prints or mixtiles for house decorations. Anyway, thought you all might enjoy these also. These are all from Florence and the surrounding region, Siena, San Gimignano, and Bologna.

So my Oct vacay I was planning is probably on hold. Wife's Mother In Law got covid while on a cruise and ended up in the hospital in canada. Almost lost her, but hopefully she pulls through. Wife was there for the past week.

Not sure how much insurance is gonna cover on this. Wife spent a lot going there last minute.

Did you go to the famous sandwhich spot in Florence?

Sure did, on your recommendation. It was great, had to wait 45 minutes in line though. I got some pictures but none of them really turned out great, it just looks like a crowd of people under a sign. It was an amazing sandwich though, although we found equally great ones without all the fanfare.

damn thats really tough, hope all works out with her there. One of the reasons I prioritize travel in my life is you never know when something like that will happen. Got to enjoy what you have, while you have it and that goes for the people in your life.

I've never been to try, but I've heard about it.

It's worth a visit but hit it in the off hours if you can. It's such a popular place that they have taken over 3 store front, all of them had 45 minutes waits and there were people working out front to direct traffic and make sure the lines were equal size. The whole little street they are on is known for being a lunch street food area and there are other great food there. I felt kind of bad for the poor kebob guy who was standing in his shop all by himself, just watching people line up in front of his shop all waiting for sandwiches.
