Re: Announcment: please read

Ta Da!

We're now running vb4

I'll be working on various modifications to the site now that it's up again. Skins!

Re: Announcment: please read

That is advertising text. We dont have that here and do not have plans to add it.

Re: Announcment: please read

It'll take some time to get used to, but looks like it will be better once its all finished. Thanks!

Re: Announcment: please read

I will wait until it's finalized before I trash it.

Re: Announcment: please read

Well, Denny, you explained all the wonderful features of the new design, but you somehow forgot to mention that there's going to be a FREAKING AD IN THE FIRST POST OF EVERY THREAD!!!!!! This is just wonderful. Now when I post, I get to promote somebody else's product whether I want to or not!!!! Yippeee.

Are you getting my sarcasm?

Re: Announcment: please read

Hey Denny,

I can't seem to search for all of my posts. Is there a bug?

Re: Announcment: please read

It will take 3 to 4 days until everything returns to normal. (getting rid of bugs, etc)

Denny and the crew are working hard on all the issues at the moment.

Re: Announcment: please read

I see no ad in the first post of every thread. If there is, somehow, it'll be turned off. That's not something we want.

Please be patient.

Re: Announcement: please read

Damn it Denny, now my FFVB doesn't work and I have to see Mixum's and KS's posts on the front page.. The ignore poster still doesn't hide threads, boo!!

Re: Announcement: please read

Just don't put Nate McMillan in charge of anything that needs ADJUSTING.

Re: Announcement: please read

I have to say, i dont really like the change, but hopefully it will grow on me

We're working on it. What you see now is the out of the box stuff. We have to customize it to look right, and then we'll improve and ad functionality from there.

Make the bloody thread titles bigger for a start and get rid of or shrink the massive icons to the left of each thread.

Everything that should be small is big, and everything that should be big is small.

It's doing my massive head in to be honest.

:)

What???? Ads???? You promised no ads! :ohno:

But seriously -- I like the changes. I don't know if the old version had the "go to first unread message in thread" button, but it's fantastic.

I like it! But My name should be red or blue like the moderators!!!!

Feel free to test out vb4's reputation system by repping me now.

By the way--major props to you guys for keeping this site basically 100% up for over a year straight. I can't remember the last time I had problems logging on. It's a rock-solid reliable forum. Also extremely fast. You don't really appreciate it until you don't have it.

You go with Alice in Wonderland. I'll stick with my Cinderella analogy. We could double-date.

I am one of those who see an ad in the 1st post on each page.

My 1st complaint (I'm sure there will be more) is that the exact time is not recorded for each post. It just says "29 minutes ago" or "6 hours ago." The exact time allows us to understand a lot of things--when messages cross, when 2 posts occur simultaneously, when someone's response makes no sense until you look at times, jokes that make sense only if you know it was posted in the middle of the night or right before gametime, Gramps disqualifying predictions made after gametime, etc.

Edit: Now I'm not seeing an ad (a picture ad inside the 1st post). Maybe it's only before logging in. (I'm still seeing a banner ad at the top of the page.)

Thanks, mook. We changed hosting providers about 6 weeks ago and had to reboot the servers to change the IP addresses. At the time we rebooted, the main S2 server had been up for 475 days or so. And I take pride in making the site run fast - it involves a lot of database tuning and www server tuning and analysis of how the browser cache (server-side) headers are set, and that sort of thing.

The date/time of posts is a configuration option. Seemed to me like "2 minutes ago" is a bit easier to figure out than having to look at the clock and do the math in your head. The "2 minutes ago" will show a date and time as the post is older, FWIW.

By configuration, do you mean I can configure it among my personal options, or that your configuration is set in stone for everyone?

It's for the whole site, I'm guessing so they don't have to do extra processing each time it shows a thread.

I'd suggest putting all the info except the name below the avatar. Looks a little unorganized.

I prefer to know EXACTLY when a post was made, as well.

Not sure if we get a vote, but it's the main thing that I would like changed I've seen so far. :)
