Anacortes is about 35-40 minutes south of me. I was last on the naval base about 20 years ago, accompanying my father to his base pharmacy just to take a ride. Aunt Edie had a house in Anacortes for decades, shuffling there in the summer, and in her Palm Springs house in the winter, with her last husbands.

Speed, the local tourist spot is the town of LaConner. It has little shops of minerals and souvenir artifacts, nothing compared to a big city, but a place to pass some time on a day of leisure. I was there a few times in the 80s. Find the outdoor tavern on a sunny day. Find the schedule for when the marching brass band is coming between the tables. Get going on your pitcher of beer before they perform. Shade your eyes from the Sun reflecting off of the golden trumpets and trombones.
LaConner can be a utopian Saturday if you time it right. But, maybe it's all died like everything else since the liberal 70s-80s, so check first whether there are still brass band hours.
P.S. Marijuana is legal here, unlike in New York.
