Me cuenta @raulcosin que Claver ha dicho al Valencia Basket que se va y que pagará los 600.000 euros de la cláusula para jugar en Portland

Translated for you underachievers

@raulcosin tell me that Claver has told the Valency Basket that he will leave and will pay 600.000 euros of the clause to play in Portland

meh, his cap hold is a million, and if we cut him, we'd just have a roster hold of around 500,000. Not any big loss.

Curious how this will play out. Where will he play? Competing with Babbit for backup SF/PF minutes? And, what exactly does he do? His numbers from last year don't show much. Not a big scorer, rebounder or anything else that shows up.

dollar Euro exchange rate is as good as it has been in a while - bueno amigo claver a

What exactly does he do?

He brings the same attributes to the table as Rudy: he speaks a foreign language, and pretends to like girls.

He might be better than Babbitt, that is not saying much...but at this point with POR roster, you take what you can get...lol

We're bringing a couple Euro's over to make Batum happy. He really missed not having Patty or Rudy last season.

Yeah, but that is from 2009. His per40 stats from last year look like 13 pts; 5 reb; 2 asst--not great for 40 minutes of credit. Also he shot 60% from the line. Just not clear what he brings.

He was an elite athlete until his knee injury. I see him as a stretch 4 who can also rebound a little.

Chris Haynes: Sounds like Victor Claver will leave Valencia Basketball and pay $600,000 buyout to come to #Blazers, according to @Emilio V. Escudero. about 19 minutes ago

The knee was a few years ago. He had a stress fracture in his foot last year.

Here's some video from a game in Jan. 2011:

As I see it, he's a cheap bench player who could turn into something down the line. It sounded to me like the Blazers were going to push Luke to put on some weight and play more at the 4. Claver may be able to provide some reasonable backup minutes at the 3.

I didn't think we could stretch Williams? Is there something in the new CBA that allows this?

From Larry Coon's CBA FAQ:

Individually negotiated revisions to the payment schedule are not allowed for contracts signed or extended under the current CBA. For these contracts or extensions the remaining guaranteed salary for a waived player is "stretched" and paid in equal amounts over a greater time span, as follows:

If the player is waived from July 1 to August 31, then his remaining salary is paid over twice the number of years remaining on his contract, plus one. For example, if the player is waived on August 1 with two seasons remaining on his contract at $10.2 million and $10.3 million, respectively, then his remaining salary is paid over five years (two seasons times two, plus one), in even amounts of $4.1 million per year.

From Larry Coon's CBA FAQ:

Awesome - thanks. For some reason, I had it in my head that was before the new CBA, and the new CBA did away with that. Glad it's the opposite. If we want to waive Williams, it's essentially $1 mil per year over 3 years.

Jason Fleming: First talk of Freeland, now Claver...add in up to four draft picks...re-sign Batum, add a vet PG...Blazers will be very different next year 1 minute ago

Yes, without some serious improvement via trade or free agency, we will be different (and worse, but younger).

Makes the next month super-critical.

take out Failton and Crawchuck and Nate and (hopefully) add a competent point guard ... and worse? I don't know, I guess so, but maybe not.

The last two seasons have seen big shake ups compared to say the Roy, Blake, Trout, Aldridge, Pryzbilla team

It'll start with how draft day shakes out. Then free agency.

We draft a young PG (like Lillard), I expect it's going to take some time. We draft Waiters, we'll still need to add a real PG. If we were able to get one, a 3-guard rotation with Wes, Waiters, and said FA PG could work. It'll still take some time, but it's somewhat intriguing.

But still hoping for a guy like T-Rob to fall, a solid big that can contribute immediately and help slide LA to C (at least for stretches of a game). Then add a PG via free agency, or the #11.

Meh, smells like trade fodder to me. Perhaps include his rights in a draft day trade to move up a spot, or two to insure getting "our guy".

BNM
Awesome.

Veektor got us LaMarcus. Maybe Victor gets us Robinson, MKG or Barnes.
