I voted Miller. With the caveat that I would have asked Dame if it would be enough for him to stay if we weren't able to bring in another star.
If Dame said that wouldn't be enough then I think I would have gone with Scoot.

I think Dame + Miller is better than Scoot.
I think Scoot would extend Dame's playing career and take wear and tear off his body when he's 35-36...having your apprentice in the wings would've been a great thing for both guys. Also Dame's minutes would keep him fresher for playoff runs with a decent backup pt guard. At any point, it's moot now. He's outta here.

The only player we theoretically could have drafted where Dame may have stayed was Wemby.

I'm not sure that would change anything....Chauncey mentioned a lot of Dame's decision was not basketball related. I'd say divorce and taxes were a big factor if he's about to lose half his bank account..

He's conducting himself as a free agent and filed for the right to demand a trade....that's not a guy honoring his contract. Superstars are apparently always free agents. Even if it means not playing for the team they signed with. For what it's worth I'm not a fan of this practice at all...Dame is legally guilty of tampering as far as I'm concerned.
Joe Cronin lied to him. Dame shut it down last year so the team could add a player of need. Instead Joe drafted his replacement. If Dame plays till the end of the season, it's likely they don't get the third pick, and likely do trade the damn thing for help. Joe didn't keep his word. He hasn't signed one quality UFA. He's made no trades to bring in size . He broke his word. So Dame asked out. So Joe joe doesn't have to keep his, but Dame does. Dame's done a ton for this organization. A hell of a lot more than Forked Tongue Joe. If you can't see that ...

For all the "hoopla" around Scoot's first performance, Amen had a similar performance ... arguably even better than Scoot considering his defensive prowess.

It'll be interesting to see their two careers as time goes on.

I didn't see anything that said good defender as far as Scoot was concerned. I did like Scoots pace with the ball and vision. Obviously he can finish with the best at the hoop. Shooting was uneven. Amen looked very good on defense, and finished well at the hoop. Seemed scared to shoot from outside though.

Scoot torched him. I didn't see the defensive prowess.

When is the last time you saw Damian Lillard pick up the other team's point guard full court? Scoot was going at Thompson. He needs work, but the EFFORT is there and that's something that Dame has simply never done.

Dude hasn't played one freakin' real game, and you all goo goo.

Torched him?

Even on the shots Scoot made, they were tough midrange jumpers because he couldn’t just blow by Amen … which kudos to Scoot for making those shots, it was impressive as I’ve said multiple times.

Amen had 4 blocks and 3 steals. That’s not defensive prowess?

Or I know you love KOC, who said this:

But of course you didn’t see the same defensive prowess.

Multiple people have acknowledged Amen defense. But the Scoot DSC refuses to acknowledge it.

As I said before, it’s summer league, and it’s one game so it doesn’t tell me much, but sheesh the SDSC is outta control.

Also Amen had 3 steals and 4 blocks. Scoot has a steal. As in 1.

5 of 13 isn't any sort of torched

First of all, one of those shots was a half court heave at the buzzer before halftime. So really it's 5/12

Second, when they were matched up, Scoot blew by Thompson several times for easy buckets.

I really like Amen...I don't think there's anything wrong with picking him but I'd have picked Scoot personally. If Scoot had gone to Charlotte I'd have picked Amen over Miller for defense.

Scoot may end up the better player, but he wasn't a need, and now this whole thing has turned in to an ugly powder keg. Not fair to Scoot, and sure as hell, not fair to Dame. Miller looks real good. And I highly doubt he wouldn't have exceled with Dame.
No wonder the Blazers didn't draft Michael Jordan.
It's easy to say it was obvious in retrospect, but it definitely wasn't obvious.
This is the same reason that Charlotte did not draft scoot Henderson.

Thompson was SO good at defending Scoot that they had to move him off Scoot and put Eason on him. Yup. That's really solid.

2 of his first three buckets in this highlight reel are Scoot torching him.

What’s really the difference between Sharpe and Miller? I know Miller is taller but that’s about it

Maybe for a couple years, but as Dame starts to fade when he's 35 or 36 years old, that's when Scoot will most likely start to really take off. So really it depends on whether you think Miller or Scoot will end up being the better player.
I think it's close enough to not even worry about. Odds are Miller will be more highly coveted for longer. Scoot is small and relies on his extreme strength and athleticism to be good. I doubt he'll be as valuable as long as Miller will be. But scoot may end up having a higher peak.

But flip a coin. Nobody knows, they are both incredible prospects. There is no consensus, even among experts. If it were enough for Dame, I'd have gone Miller if we had the chance.

Dude hasn't played one freakin' real game, and you all goo goo.

Your takes just get more and more garbo. You're getting dangerously close to being someone I just scroll over and don't read because you don't offer anything of value.

Miller wouldn't have swayed Dame one way or the other..rookies are rookies...we drafted the best rookie on the board available. Moving forward Dame is not part of the new era ..that was his choice. Scoot really loves being here. Turns out we could have traded for Siakam but he didn't want to come to Portland (according to Toronto's reporter) In retrospect, Dame too failed to bring free agents to Portland...Jimmy Butler succeeded in getting free agents to Miami. I have a real problem with Miller delivering a murder weapon to his friend. I don't want that around our locker room no matter how well he shoots a basketball or how tall he is. I don't think Wemby would've kept Dame in Portland...as Chauncey said, Dame's decision was not just about basketball. He's losing his wife. He probably wants to put some miles between his marital problems and his job.

Whoa he’s losing his wife/martial problems? Where did you hear that? Or am I late on this news?

He made 5 buckets. One 3 pointer, 2 mid range, and 2 drives to hoop. One of those a nice up and under shot to keep it from being blocked. That's not several times for easy buckets.

Scoot's going to get the love in Portland. Nothing unfair to him.

Dame got his bag now he can wait until he goes somewhere else. Dame, maybe we never knew ya.

If Sharpe were taller we'd be ECSTATIC. He's tall enough to be super stoked about. But if he were taller... Wow. Now, imagine having a taller version Sharpe AS WELL?!?!

When Steph Curry takes the time to tutor you one on one you're probably a pretty special talent...both Curry and CP3 were with Scoot for game two...this kid is going to learn from the best..too bad Dame didn't add to the mentoring.

Wow i wish my 5 bucks could be that valuable.

Hey that's awesome. But Dame has been mentoring tons of younger players. Or do you forget his programs?

So are you gonna be this butthurt all season because Dame wants out? You're prepared to hate Scoot because you think Dame was done wrong? You have been posting this crap for a week.

Damn, maybe you need to take the bag off your head.

I think that narrative is played out and I disagree with it...when tanking we didn't have the 3rd pick..you can hate on Joe but that's where you and I reach an impasse....I think he's been very clear and sensible. Dame on the other hand has not been reasonable in my view. You don't handcuff the team you supposedly love to ring chase early in your contract...you ask for a trade with a year left on it...not 4 years. ..Dame has been paid incredibly well for what he's done for this franchise but this franchise and this city empowered him from his rookie year. He had the keys to the franchise and in my view is throwing that all away now. Sad but people make choices. It's time to let go of Dame in my view.

Your diatribe has been B.S. as well. I'm simply going to bat for the player that has given me more joy as a Blazers fan than any other . Dame is a rare talent that would have gotten a so called "Bag" from wherever he had played. But to see people in here turn on him and become so petty, and forget all he contributed, is flat out bullshit, disrespectful, and pathetic.

False. He could not have gotten the same salary on another team. It's contingent on playing for the SAME team for 8+ years. If he asked out 2 years ago or last year, he gets less money. Period. There was a MAJOR incentive to stay in Portland until this summer, and wouldn't you know..... as soon as Dame could leave, he asked out.
