Would you prefer the Blazers had got Brandon Miller or Amen Thompson over Scoot?

How would we know how good he is? All he does is float on the perimeter and wait for someone to pass him the ball. When he tries to do more, we'll have a better idea if he's an actual player.
That power layup was impressive if it wasn't just luck that it went in.

During the pre draft period , the Blazers had many in for workouts. They obviously fell in love with Scoot. But what happened during Cam Whitmore's workout, and in his other visits to NBA teams , that made him drop so far. Because Whitmore just had a game with 8 steals in a game, and the two of the Blazers biggest needs were SF, & defense. I'm no Mike Schmitz college guru, but said Whitmore reminded me of Calvin Natt. With the kind of mean the Blazers needed. I know, it's Summer league, but if you're gonna give credence to Scoot's performance, and Wemby, you have to do the same for Whitmore.

The Blazers already have a Ferrari, they didn't need another one. They needed an F Duty, or Ram truck (Whitmore) more. They still need a SF. Not saying the Blazers should have used the 3rd pick on Whitmore, but maybe they could have traded back, and got both Whitmore & Lively. The Blazers young centers look developmental at best. We'll see if falling in love with the shiny sports car was the way to go. If you have a great QB , and you need offensive linemen to protect him, you don't draft another QB.

Dude, we get it. You LOVE Amen Thompson and we're going to hear about him ALLLLLLL SEASON. I think he has potential. I think he's going to struggle next season against NBA competition.

You have been bashing on Scoot since before the draft. My point was that when Scoot was matched up on him, he had no problem being able to get past him or score.

You know what Scoot has that Amen does not have? Leadership. Personality. Gravitas.

The absolute worst thing we could do is replace Damian Lillard with another wall flower kid. Just put him up there with the gregarious twins... Simons and Sharpe. They both do so much talking.
Well this thread is specifically about Amen Thompson, is it not? It’s not like I’m randomly bringing him up in game threads.

Side note: I explicitly said the kid cannot shoot. So I don’t “LOVE” Amen Thompson. I said I would draft him because virtually every draft expert acknowledges he has the second highest ceiling in the draft.

I also was not bashing him. I was evaluating his game just like I evaluated others. I also said multiple times I like him and he’s probably the best player right now. Players like him just don’t win championships so I’m not too interested. So for the 10,000 time, please stop with the bullshit claims that I was “bashing” the kid. I’ve pointed out flaws of Amen, Miller, Whitmore, Scoot.

Yeah, ok, and my point was that’s not true. He would get by him and then (Scoot compliment incoming, but how is that possible since I hate him) realize that Amen was right there and instead of getting blocked / taking a really tough shot / he made great passes in tight spots instead of forcing it at the rim.

And ok. Fair enough if that’s your perspective about leadership and gravitas. But finally, the post you responded to said you haven’t seen ANY defensive prowess by Amen.

If Damian Lillard blows by Kawhi, does that mean Kawhi has *no defensive prowess*?

His medicals were of concern.

Or Dame wants out and he really only wants to go Miami. Why isn't that possible?
Did Durant have a beef against the Nets' GM/ownership?

Dame isn't Durant

and the current situation with Dame isn't the same as Durant's. Dame went from 11 years of loyalty to Portland to having his agent doing everything he could to destroy Portland's leverage in any trade scenario but one. That's fairly unprecedented; and that happened in less than a month. If you don't see some bad blood there, fine, but I certainly see it

And quite honestly, less than 2 weeks. 11 years of goodwill for Goodwin to erode in 3 days.

Sure there is bad blood.
The problem for Dame is that he's making a trade difficult, and supposedly he wants to be traded.
I think Cronin would be happy having Dame back, at least he would prefer that to a bad return.

it's hard to see enough slack in the current situation for an easing of tensions and Dame coming back to Portland. I suppose it's possible, especially if it becomes apparent that Miami won't happen

it does look like Pat Riley, Miami, Dame's camp, and a major portion of the NBA media landscape grossly oversold the leverage the Heat and Dame had in forcing a Dame-->Miami deal. Portland did have the simple option of patience; the longer they are patient, the less Miami can afford to be. Portland's window is lottery picks the next 2-3 years and the glass is tempered. Miami's window is for the NBA finals, again, and the glass is very fragile

the pressure isn't on Portland...well some is but not much. The pressure is on Miami to get their roster set; and it's on Dame to order his agent to restore Portland's trade leverage by adjusting demands

This thread isn't specifically about Amen Thompson. It's about Scoot/Miller/Thompson.

Actually... that's not what I said at all. I said "Scoot torched him. I didn't see the defensive prowess." I'm not saying that I didn't see ANY defensive prowess, as you said. I'm looking at how he defends NBA caliber players. Similar to Rupert, I loved what I saw from him on defense, but that's against summer league competition. I see the potential, but is he ready to lock up Ja Morant? Is he ready to lock up Donovan Mitchell? The kid has defensive chops and I think he'll be a good defender, but Scoot is a 19 year old rookie and he embarrassed him a few times.

And I hope players, agents, gm's and owners are paying attention. You don't sign a supermax, with four years remaining on your contract, and then demand a trade to only one destination. A destination that has little to no assets to make a deal palatable. I am sure most owners and gm's want Cronin/Vulcan to hold the line. At least the smaller market ones do. Of course players and agents are on the flip side of the coin wanting Portland to cave. If Portland caves, besides being a laughing stock, they will be letting all know that a signature and contract are meaningless. At some point, someone has to push back against the players and agents rigging the league. I am all for them culling their money together and starting their own league, like LIV did in golf. Start your own gig since you cannot follow the decorum of the NBA and civility of honoring contracts.
