Every year, it seems like any time a team has multiple 2nd round picks, the train of thought on message boards is "Let's just package our #39, #40, and #45 for the #25 pick," or something along those lines, but it never really seems to work out that way in reality.

The more likely scenario is that they'll make one second round pick on a player they plan on having on the roster, another second round pick will be traded for a future second round pick, and the final second round pick will be spent on a foreign prospect that doesn't even play on a Euroleague team and will probably never come over.

Jerryd Bayless was a lottery pick, Seth Curry is projected undrafted... someone needs to explain that to me, because I've watched both players all year long, and I'd be more than happy to hand over Bayless' role over to Curry.

I like the idea. Then again, I liked the Jon Diebler idea too. These one-skilled, specialized guys are who we need to draft in the second round. Strong defenders, shooters, or rebounders are the guys to go after. Considering the number of roster spots we need to fill, it's good that we have so many second rounders.

Some good players slip to the second round all the time and have a long NBA career. Most do not, but none-the-less some do. So the more picks we have the better our odds are for finding a nice surprise.

I wonder if MJ sees value in 3 2nd round picks? What else would he want to swap 1st round picks? I would love to package a deal for all 4 of our picks and the Greek for their pick.

This is an interesting idea. He's probably not going to be a great player at the next level, but he was really fun to watch just because of his extremely high bb IQ. He really knows how to play the game and plays hard. Those types of guys can find success even if he is undersized and under athletic at the next level.

Funny, I have the exact opposite view of Siva. I've always seen him as a player who was effective due to his speed, but regularly made very poor decisions. Up until this year, I viewed him as a major underachiever as compared to his actual ability. Perhaps his years under Pitino have matured him significantly, but I'm really not all that interested in him, even at 45.

Interesting. I admit that I only got to see him play about 5 times, and all of those times were this season. However, as I mentioned, he came across as a guy that can't really shoot, doesn't have a great mid-range game and had trouble finishing at the rim. But I also felt like he controlled the pace of the game with his bb IQ and just knowing how to play the game the right way.

I would be pretty interested in having him as a backup PG if we could get him at #45.

I would love for that to be an option. I wish I had a good feel for where Hardaway was going to go because I really would like to draft him. But I have a feeling that someone might draft him higher than expected.

Sasha Pavlovic was living on 10-day contracts and became an unrestricted FA on 7/1/12. On 7/20/12 the Celtics gave him a 3-year $4 million contract, then traded him that day to us. They had to give us cash and 2 2013 2nd-round picks, and take Jon Diebler.

So we have 3 2nd-round picks. Why did the Celtics do that?

I've probably watched more Big 10 ball than NBA ball over the years, so I remember Diebler's career well, and he was way more one dimensional than Curry. Granted, Curry is also a great shooter, but he's also a better pure scorer, and I have to wonder if he wouldn't be in the lottery conversation if he had stayed at Liberty and been given a chance to showcase his playmaking abilities.

You'd think it'd be the opposite, but going to Duke might have hurt his stock, because he wasn't relied upon to do everything for his team the way his brother was at Davidson. His apg is relatively low, but Duke didn't use him as a distributor... they used him as go-to scoring option. His freshman apg is comparable to Steph's, and it'd probably be a lot higher if he had stayed at Liberty.

From what he showed in his role at Duke though, there's a definite role for him in the NBA, if for nothing else, as a scoring punch off the bench. I mean, I just watched him kill my Spartans, in a game where he only had one assist... he also had 29 pts and was 6-9 from downtown and made it impossible for us to get back into the game.

No cap holds for 2nd rounders, so yes, we can just wait to sign them until after we have used up our cap space.

They had to dump Sasha on us to make the Courtney Lee sign-and-trade work. Basically, they needed a third team to get involved to get what they wanted from Houston, and paid Sasha's salary and threw in the 2nd rounders to make it worth our while. Basically, Olshey saw it as a chance to get something (not much, but something) for nothing.
