Unemployed NBA players

3. Antonio Daniels
A little more than a week ago, it looked close to a done deal for the 12-year veteran to join the Cavs. But with Cleveland already in luxury tax territory, and while the Jackson trade talks were still alive, the decision was made that in a buyer's market, it was best to keep the team's options open.

Daniels, who also drew interest from Memphis before Tinsley signed with the Grizzlies on Saturday, is now hoping to rejoin San Antonio -- the franchise he won a title with in 1999.

"There is interest, but there is no urgency," said Daniels' agent, Tony Dutt. "This is, by far, the strangest year I've ever seen for guys getting opportunities."
I may be a Daniel's homer, but I had interest with him when he was in Washington. I really like him when he was a Blazer.

1. Jerry Stackhouse
Judging from the tone of his voice, if we were to pick a favorite to land Stackhouse's services, it'd be the Lakers -- in no small part due to his long history with Kobe Bryant.

"We've always competed, and we go way back. When he was a rookie, before he even started his rookie season, John Lucas had he and I out on the track running. He knows how I compete and work, so we've always had that mutual respect.

"Kobe's got a gamesmanship about him, he knows how guys look at him in awe. I've seen several times when he came over to the bench where I was and would not say anything to anybody on the whole bench, but then he'd look at me and say, 'What up Stack?' So there's a respect there both ways, I believe."
He wants a ring, but would he be interested in becoming a Blazer? He would be given serious "Starter-type" minutes in Portland, because of our lack of SF leadership.

Antonio Daniels a SF?

We have no open roster spots, so it's not simply a matter of picking up somebody off the street. Having said that I'm not so sure Stack is anything other than a stopgap and probably not a very effective one at that. Antonio Daniels is a point guard no?

I'm not going to hold my breath that any moves get made, it just doesn't feel like Pritchard's MO -- even with the team down to a single true small forward.

No, I had to toss him in. I really love his game. Always have cause he's such a aggressive defender at point.

Just think of it KP. Hired Daniels. Use Blake, Webster and Miller to land a SF (Butler maybe). Then start Fernandez at PG/SG (defend the PG, be the SG on offense), Roy (Be the SG on defense and run point on O).

Rotation:

Fernandez/Daniels/Bayless
Roy/Bayless
Butler/Roy/Fernandez
Aldridge/Howard
Oden/Pryzbilla

YAY!

Stackhouse is a teenage girl?

We can always release Mills. Not like a PG so buried in the pecking order, he's never gonna crack our rotation.

How about Meh!?

I guess, but then why sign him and let Udoka walk -- Stack and he are probably about as useful as players at this point in their respective careers. Frankly why not just use players in a consolidation trade and get something for them instead of waiving them for a bandaid player who is unlikely to be able to contribute much.

Sorry if I'm a little "uneducated" in chat abbreviations but what does "meh" mean?

kinda like.. "bleh"

or a shoulder shrug saying "doesnt do anything for me"

It means exactly what it sounds like. As in my wife asking me, "Hey honey do you want to go shopping at the mall with me?" and my response is "meh"

At the time, we didn't have an injury problem. Batum, Webster and Outlaw were all healthy.

So I'll throw this out there. When Batum moved into the lineup last year, it was because of injury. When he moved into the lineup, he was raw as hell, and pretty much had no knowledge of NBA ball when he came in. So why is it now that we are short on small forwards, that Dante Cunningham, in the same situation, but coming out of an excellent college program, with a better understanding of team defense, and a fairly sound offensive game, cannot get minutes? Are we really going to go searching for another SF, when we haven't even checked out the one on our bench to see what he can do? There is only one thing worse than making a trade you may not need. That is trading a guy who might just be a 2nd round steal, to another team before you know how good he is. I would at least like to see the dude get some minutes so we can make that decision for ourselves.

But it still doesn't seem to make any sense to waive players who can be used as filler in a trade. waiving them is just kind of short sighted ... especially when it comes to waiving them to make room for a really, really over-the-hill wing like Stack.

I'd much rather KP was working the phones looking to consolidate what we have rather than waiving our fifteenth man to replace him with another guy who's about fifteenth man quality, but with not much left in the tank.

Personally I think now is the time for KP to see what Blake's expiring deal combined with Webster or Rudy and maybe another throw in like Mills can get you in a trade, for an actual rotation or starting quality player.

Probably because Dante isn't actually a small forward. He played power forward in college and he doesn't have enough lateral quickness to guard most threes. That's not to say I don't think he can soak up some of Travis' backup power forward minutes. I think the other issue here is how little Martell is providing at small forward -- so little in fact that he can't even get more than 11 or 12 minutes in an overtime game at the end of a long road trip.

I was thinking more in the lines of Daniels. :D And using Miller, Blake and Webster to grab Butler. Then you don't have to release anyone, since it would be a 3-1.

I just did a deal that used Blake, Webster and T. Outlaw for Butler. It works and we actually reduce payroll. It shows us with -3 wins though. But I don't know. Miller, Roy, Butler, Aldridge and Oden sounds like a solid starting line-up, especially if we have Fernandez and Bayless obviously getting more burn and the #1, #3 back ups, with Pryzbilla being the #2

You know I would agree or disagree with you, but we really haven't got to see him play at that position, so how do we know?

The point here is how in the world could he be worse then Martell was in that last game.

Holy shit Martell was bad. Like "Has he ever even played one minute of NBA basketball?" bad.

Worst Blazer on the floor by a huge margin.

You're right I don't "know" I can only relate what Monty Williams said about him in training camp and from the few snippets of play he's gotten on the court. I guess I'm just trusting the Blazers coaching staff that they know what position he plays when they list him at power forward. :dunno:

Can someone please refresh my memory on how you ignore a user again, I need to stop reading topics/comments posted by magnifier, I keep telling myself to avoid them but I don't pay enough attention to the topic starter so I need a better reminder. Thanks for the help in advance.

Well ... you might have a point. But my what I was mainly trying to say is that Dante playing or not is mostly unrelated to the small forward position. We do have need for a backup power forward with Travis down for a long time, but we also have maybe a bigger hole to fill at the small forward spot since Brandon doesn't seem to be nearly as effective at the 3 versus the 2 and Martell just looks ... bad.

Thanks for the only intelligent thing that has come from you

Last week when you were working out of town does that mean it didn't "count" when I slept with your wife since only her and I saw it? Does it need to be televised in order for it to officially happen? Either way is cool, just want to know what technically did, or didn't happen.
Hmmmm intelligence?

You are such a douche bag for knowing that stat off the top of your head
And such class.

Thanks for the in depth analysis, you should replace Rice with your insight this year after that one!
And friendly too.

I am glad you will be ignoring me. At least I won't get arrogant replies by you.

Jealous I don't clown on you like I do my boy HCP? And my crack on your intelligence referred to your insane ideas for the Blazers. But maybe you are right and Nate should play Martell at the 4 you know better than our staff, the entire NBA is a conspiracy but Stern is pissed at us for getting Oden and Washington would be dumb enough to hand over their All Star 3 for someone you call poison and fool's gold in Blake, a non PF in Martell and a point guard they don't need in Dre. I'm sure I could go further back but that's just what you've said so far this week.

I agree, I'd like to see what Cunningham has to offer. The guy is built like a freaking tank! He supposedly has hops to rival or exceed Outlaw's. I still feel like the problem is Blake and not playing with a true SF. If we have to go three guards then we should definitely start Rudy next to Roy and Miller. I know Blake had some great assists last night, but they are nothing that Miller and Rudy can't duplicate.

If you want three guards go Rudy. If you want a SF then start Martell and bring DC off the bench. It might be that DC is better then Martell in which case you can start him instead. Blake is not, and will not be cutting it.
