Tribune: How has it been playing for McMillan?

Wallace: It’s been great, but it’s been different. It’s been a transition coming from Larry Brown and then Paul Silas in Charlotte. Now it feels like I’m going right back to Larry Brown. They’re pretty much the same. Nate is pretty demanding in what he wants and what he expects from his players.

Tribune: Is that the similarity with Brown?

Wallace: Yeah, I just think the demeanor and the approach they take are similar. They’re passionate about the game, and they want the best from their players. They take it real personal. Every game hits them just as if they were playing the game themselves.

I think we'll see it; if we can keep Batum's morale up, he'll be really good off the bench until Wallace leaves and Batum has learned from him. If we can't, well... he's got enough upside and potential and is young enough that he could net us quite a bit if he decides he can't be a Blazer.

I see a Greg Anthony/Damon Stoudemire situation. Matthews starts; Roy finishes. Frankly I think the first 6-8 minutes of the 1st quarter would be wasted minutes for Roy, since we try to establish LMA in that time anyway (he often gets 1/4 to 1/3 of his points in the first 6 minutes of the game). If he's limited to less than 30 minutes a game, starting him takes away from his ability to play in the 4th.

I think Wallace may start at SF this season. Well I mean maybe in the playoffs. I think Nate wants him to start, but only until he learns the offensive sets for the starting core. BUT I have been wrong so many times before, so don't bet on it.

Being on the same page as Nate, respecting Nate, buying into what Nate wants to do, showing toughness and becoming a leader on this team, I think Wallace will reinforce on the court and in the locker room what Nate wants to do, and help keep everyone on the same page.

I remember Larry Brown when he coached the Pistons. I liked after the 05' season he tells everyone how he is not going to New York, but then leaves and he gets fired in like a year LOL.

I didn't read the article (yet) but that's exactly what I thought when I read the thread title. Brown can be a good coach and all but his track record ain't all that - and don't count on him sticking around for any amount of time.

Sure they do. There would be a LOT fewer trades if the players involved came without Bird rights. If his former team held is Bird rights, those rights are transferred to his new team.

I think Wallace was saying Nate and LB have similar coaching philosophies, not similar personalities. In terms of loyalty to an organization, Nate has infinitely more than Larry "Next Town" Brown. Brown almost always (Knicks being the exception - but they were a train wreck before he got there) makes his new team better for two or three seasons, then he starts looking for his next job as his current players and front office grow to despise him. He took Charlotte to the playoffs for the first time last season, but had worn out his welcome this year before the season was half over. That's Brown's standard MO.

Nate, on the other hand was a player, assistant coach and head coach in Seattle for 19 seasons and is now in his 6th season in Portland and committed for two more.

I have my own thoughts about what makes them similar and different, but that is why I got confused. A player is telling us fans what it is like in practice with those two coaches and saying it has the same feel.

I don't think Wallace is trying to compliment Nate because if he was that would be a huge insult to Silas (Wallace says Nate is not like Silas). Wallace was simply describing what it was like playing for Nate he said it feels more like Brown than Silas.

I kind of get the difference you are pointing out, but to say they are the most different coaches after Wallace is calling them similar . . . I guess my question is how Nate more similar to Silas? Personally I don't know much about Silas and even Brown . . . other than a player who played for all three is saying Nate and Brown are more similar in style.

FYI-I find Wallace to be well spoken (was not originally expecting that). He is articulate and his responses have detail and are right on point to the question. I enjoy his interviews and find him insightful.
