Both parties elevating the trans issue - 1% of the population or so - to be 70% of our discourse is an absolute distraction that both parties use while giving absolutely nothing to people. Trans people like everyone, deserve the same dignity. But which bathroom someone uses is perhaps the last thing I'm thinking about.

I think the rhetoric has changed more than anything. I haven't seen anything super consequential in terms of policy change. Can't join the military? That's a win for the trans community.
