Now it's been ten thousand years
Iran has cried a billion tears
For what, they never knew, now Trump's reign is through
But through eternal night, the twinkling of firefight...

If the U.S gains control of the strait of Hormuz - and becomes the enforcer and dominant ruler of the area - leading to cost reduction of oil for americans (aka Trump doing Venezuela) - would this benefit the american economy on the long term or not?

No. America controlling the Strait of Hormuz isn't going to lower gas prices more than they already were.

There's nothing to be gained from this. It's a huge failure. We fucked up Iraq and Afghanistan and Iran is a much tougher problem. Much bigger country, much more powerful military, larger population.

The absolute best that we can hope to get back to is maybe back to the Iran nuclear agreement that Obama had.

But even if that did happen, Iran will now be much more belligerent and hateful toward us than they were even then.

There will be more terrorism. There will be more hate spread.

This whole thing was incredibly stupid.

No
Because the only way for that to happen in real world, as opposed to AI, is massive ground invasion and occupation of Iran for years. Thousands of deaths, economic dislocation worldwide, terrorist reprisals, and instead of Iran holding Strait hostage, Trump would be.

Trump didn't "do" Venezuela, for the record. He ordered illegal kidnapping of jead of state. Left basic regime in place but they agreed to give him money.

Alternatively, how would this conflict change things if Iran said the only way they'd let the strait remain open is if oil was traded in yuan instead of the dollar? Since we're doing wild hypotheticals.

The notion that gas prices would come down if the U.S. controlled the Strait of Hormuz is some of the dumbest rhetoric out. We went to Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, etc. Did our lives get better? Anyone who knows anything about the U.S., even the oil we drill here gets exported into the international market. It does not stay in the U.S.
