How much time elapsed between your thread about how there was nothing to see now for six weeks and this one?
Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard is taking another big step forward in his professional career this week as he participates in a mini-camp for USA Basketball at UNLV's Mendenhall Center practice facility.
The camp is the first step in USA Basketball organizers putting together the roster for next year's FIBA World Cup -- previously known as the World Championships -- as well as the 2016 Olympics.
Lillard, who unanimously won the Rookie of the Year award, is one of 30 players on the roster of the three-day camp, which will be followed by a scrimmage Friday at the Thomas & Mack Center.
Although Indiana's George Hill pulled out, Lillard will have some stiff competition at point guard, with Memphis' Mike Conley, Denver's Ty Lawson, Cleveland's Kyrie Irving, Charlotte's Kemba Walker, New Orleans' Jrue Holiday and Washington's John Wall all participating.
Irving and Holiday both made the All-Star Game this past season.
Lillard is wearing No. 22 in the mini-camp. Traditionally, players who make a national team are awarded lower numbers, from 4 to 15. All players in the mini-camp have numbers that are 20 and higher (the Pistons' Greg Monroe is wearing 62).
We'll have more on Lillard after today's practice, which was set to start at noon.

Why are all the players getting off the bus wearing ammo belts?

A few names I've heard as Day 1 standouts from Team USA camp: Damian Lillard, Gordon Hayward, DeAndre Jordan AND collegian Doug McDermott
Dame looks like a commando or a South American bodyguard in this picture. Don't mess with the Dame.

- Lawson on Lillard: “He was killing today. You can see he’s been working on his games. His shot’s smooth. He’s a great player. I like playing with him.”

7 PGs. No shame in being cut.
