The cancel culture and PC. Unfortunately its all about no give and take or effort to compromise for the sake of unity and respect. Not to mention we are now training up youngsters to pick a side and if its not the correct one they'll be scorned on the net and school.

theme song of my youth
Get Together was a protest song written after the assassination of Martin Luther King. Remember that? Vietnam? Kent State? Murder of Fred Hampton? Uprisings in cities? Overt racism of Nixon's Southern Strategy and War on Drugs?
In 1970 when John Lennon wrote Imagine, 50 years after passage of 19th Amendment for federal elections, women still couldn't vote in state elections in three states. Marital rape, wife beating and sexual harassment were legal. Same sex relations between consenting adults in private were a crime in every state. Colleges had formal policies to limit female students. There were no female newscasters, mail carriers, DJs.
Yes, some things are worse. Hate radio. There was more comity in government because they were all rich white men who had attended the same prep schools.
Planet is worse off. Nixon had commissioned a panel to look at environmental and national security. They concluded exploding population would cause massive dislocation and recommended an aggressive grass roots international campaign for family planning focused on educating and empowering women. Nixon buried the report. He was trying to win heavily Catholic white ethnics to Republican party with racist appeals and didn't want to muddy the waters with talk of birth control.
There were no Black head coaches in any professional sport. They were considered incapable.
Please. That was no golden age.

This is supposed to be a thread for positivity and to not argue, point fingers, call others out, etc.
Im hoping we can all maintain that course.![]()

Downer? So many of these things have been improved and we're mostly aware of those which have not.Debbie Downer makes her case.

That's uplifting. The downer would be returning to those days...

Ignoring things doesn't make them disappear.
There can be a difference between ignoring and taking a time out for a breath of fresh air.I can't sing. Seriously.
Ignoring things doesn't make them disappear.
But there were some great bands.
Some things have gotten progressively worse over the last 50 years…..
…. like music.
im not so sure about that. I used to think the same. I think there is still just as much good music now as there ever has been. Problem is finding it with all of the saturation of shit music.
Its just harder to find these days because of all of the different platforms, major labels not having their hooks in all the bands like they used to etc. some great independent music out there. Just hard to find.
Stay positive. Want me to send ya some links to some great modern music?
Well said!Troubled times are the reason those great songs were written, not because things were right but because they were so wrong...Jessie Collin Young wrote Get Together about being shipped to Viet Nam..."when the ones that left us here return for us at last"......the 60s were not a peace and love time...they were a cry for peace and love...big difference...then cocaine and disco showed up and everyone went dancing....some of those songs were like positive affirmations in a time of a desperate need for change..we've made some progress but we keep becoming more and more complicated and divided along the way...PEACE....in the 50s the blues cats were moaning about the state of life...nobody listened to them much until discovering them in the 60s and giving them a microphone...we're a work in progress...not a finished product
