We got Aminu!!!

I've been saying we'd get him. Its really a second thought. Olshey knew he was going to get him....getting it out of the way...tagged and bagged. Not a bad get. More of a bench guy, but we could potentially start him.

It was very much an Olshey move and why I thought he would be one of the first FA's reach out to by Neil. He fills a need, is young, athletic and with the new salary cap, will actually be inexpensive towards the end of the contract. Another 25 and under player that is on his way up as his PER shows. I think Blazer fans will be frustrated by his lack of shooting but will like a lot of other parts of his game.

Next step...

IDK, that's what people were saying about RoLo, and their minds were changed.

Haven't read this thread. I copied the name Aminu Al-Farouq from the Woj tweet into Basketball-Reference to see his stats, and it had not heard of this player. I suspected the names were reversed, and yes, this site says so. So is his name Aminu Al-Farouq or Al-Farouq Aminu?

Okay, I see his PER jumped from 13.2 to 14.4 by moving from New Orleans to Dallas, which has a similar system to that of its former assistant coach Stotts. So Farouq fits in here. 8th pick in the draft. 7 years experience, same as Batum.

He's a SF an inch taller than Batum and is known for defense. I always thought Batum was easily replaceable by many equals in the league, though many Blazer posters think that Batum's a big star. I predict that we will improve at SF next year. For half the price.

Hmm. Below average in assists. Above average in rebounds, blocks, steals, win shares because of defense, value over replacement player (gave Mavs 4 extra wins), box plus/minus because of defense not offense. No more point-forward nonsense. Lillard needs more shots so he can return to rookie form, carrying the team in the clutch. We need fewer points from forwards...unless we sign a true big inside scorer, not an inefficient shooter-only like Aldridge.

Batum's covered. Now cover Matthews (easy, get a defender) and Aldridge (get a basket attacker). Unless there are major injuries, I see another 50-win season in Stotts' system.

I don't know about him so I'm now on a fact finding mission.

Man, Love would fit in seamlessly now with this roster. Get Love and s &t for Danny Green and you have a far better roster than last year bball fit wise.

Dame/Green/Aminu/Love/Plums

The spacing, the defensive fit, the rebounding... just sick. Come on, Kevin. Prove to the world you are the best PF again. Get outta Lebrons shadow

I checked him out. We need a spark and he is high energy, always in overdrive. The Aminu can worm into space and slam dunk from the rafters.

This is a very frightening time as a Blazer fan, I'm scared we're going to lose LMA and Wes and only have Gerald Henderson and Aminu to show for it starting.
I hope Gerald Henderson and Aminu don't see your post. This could hurt their feelings.

Sorry Mags, but if Wes, Batum and Lopez aren't good enough for Aldridge I can assure you that Aminu/Hibbert isn't either.

Lakers: "We'll get DeAndre Jordan this year and next year we'll get Durant!"
Blazers: "We've got Aminu!"
Aldridge: "Well - you both make compelling cases..."

You "checked him out"? Isn't that something you say about an obscure second round pick, not your prize free agent?

Yes he is a sF. Fills a needed role IMO. A tall defensive minded SF. We need two SF in FA IMO. Harris and some of the others seem to be on everyone's radar. If we can't get one maybe we try for Wes. He and Aminu would improve that position over last year.

He's the best of both worlds! He's a SF with the passing and shooting skills of a PF!

Aminu is 2 years younger and has 5 seasons under his belt, not 7.

Olshey really is a pimp tho. Do gms ever gets a shoutout like that?

To be fair, if I'd averaged 18mpg on a team with a worse record than the team that just signed me and I just landed that much money, I'd be pretty happy with the guy who gave it to me.

The fact that Olshey has eyed him for several years (and the player knows that) makes me feel good about the acquisition - it wasn't a move made out of desperation, but clearly a calculated one.

It just seems to me that if you've met Olshey once, you've got a job for life. How many players has he acquired here that he knew from the Clippers? I can see him ten years from now, GM for the Charlotte Hornets, giving a contract to 45-year-old Chris Kaman.

Aminu be like:

First of all your little punk ass joke isn't really funny at all... It furthermore is borderline racist at worst and offensive at best... Worst of all it was extremely ignorant... Those were Somali... Aminu's family is from Nigeria... And HE is from ATLANTA... Africa is a continent not a country....

So: we didn't keep Rondae Hollis-Jefferson on a low first-round rookie contract, but instead we gave a large free-agent contract to the player he would be 4 years on if he showed no improvement?

OK, so RHJ = Aminu.

But do we have a Plumlee caliber C for his 1mil salary available in free agency?

In aggregate, Aminu + Plums for less than 10 mil/yr is pretty amazing (especially in the new CBA)

I know, they traded away this teams version of Jermaine O'neal!

Boy, is my face going to be red when Olshey announces he's just signed LeBron James.

I don't think you know what a meltdown is. But let me ask you: are you rubbing your hands and saying "yes! It's all coming together!"?

So, the only options are you're extremely pissed or you're extremely happy?

Y'know, I actually kind of agree with you. So long as that's our bench, and we end up with some actually really good players.
