There are only 96 minutes to go around upfront... If we got LA to re-sign and signed Monroe... Explain how LA, Monroe, Leonard, Plumlee, Vonleh and Kaman all get minutes?

Simple. you start LA, Monroe, Leonard, Plumlee, and Vonleh. Kamen comes off the bench.

I just don't see us going after Monroe.
We gotta have at least 13 players on the roster. And injuries happen. Depth is a good thing.

I still think kaman will be going out in some type of trade; should be interesting.
Detroit takes him in a sign and trade for Monroe? Or Dallas takes him in a sign and trade for Aminu?

Now that we've kept Kaman, I don't believe we have enough cap space to give Amino $7M and max Monroe while retaining LA's cap hold. Someone else should check the math, though.
I agree. By my math, Aminu $7M + Aldridge $20M leaves the Blazers with about $14M CAP space. That's less than the max Monroe could earn ($15.8M).

Even with the cap being 2+ more million?
Do they have a new estimate of the CAP? $67.1M is what I've been using. However, if they raise the CAP number, that also raises the max salaries for Aldridge and Monroe.

Why is that? Because free agency is already 1 hour old and we only have 1 new player?

This is a very frightening time as a Blazer fan, I'm scared we're going to lose LMA and Wes and only have Gerald Henderson and Aminu to show for it starting.

Aminu is the 12th best player from his class (2010) based on Win Shares.

The best? Greg Monroe.

x factor..he showed up in the playoffs and had a career year. He's an above average defender and shot blocker with quick hands..gets a lot of steals
He had 6 blocks against the rockets last year. Dude is kinda like Batum in the sense that he can do a little bit of everything. Except he doesn't burn himself out with his national team every summer.

I still would be happier if the contract was lower, but duckhooks point about paying for what could be was an excellent point which I cannot argue.

That's what NOP will be paying Anthony Davis each season so..that's not bad for 4 years.

As I stated in the other Aminu Thread: Blazers Should have gone after Carroll instead. $30 million for a guy who averaged 18.5 minutes,5.6 PPG and 4.6 Reb. What a waste of cap space on a BENCH PLAYER.

It's looking more and more like our roster isn't filled with guys who think they're 3 pt specialist and we've weeded it down to the pure shooter we have. Do you realize how much fresher our shooters are going to beafter being paired with defensive specialists who don't need the ball but are good at slashing to the rim and dunking? I'd think fans would be pretty happy about now

At this point, if we re-sign Aldridge, we don't have the CAP space for Monroe without further moves.

At this point I think letting Aldridge walk and signing Monroe and looking for a 3rd star might be more prudent. I dunno. I'm not going to be torn to shreds if Aldridge leaves like most.

If Portland keeps throwing money like that around Bonzi and Rasheed are going to come out of retirement.

Only if he signs with Lakers

Unless Neil blows us away with some out of the blue sign and trade bring Lamarcus to Atlanta for Horford and Carroll or Griffin with the Clipps..anything is possible. Now's the time to dream big

I'd certainly be down with Monroe/Millsap. Not happening, but I think it'd work.

If clearing cap space, getting younger, or more athletic, or better on defense is the goal, why keep Kaman? :smiley-hmm:

Think of it like ripping off a Band-Aid™. The roster we had got as close as it was ever going to get to being a championship contender . . . and it wasn't even that close. We're going to suck next year, but at least we won't be stuck in the muddy middle where you're just good enough to get a crap pick in the draft, but not good enough to threaten the powers of the conference in the playoffs.

The end is the beginning.
