We Have No Plan

Actually in the Mike Barrett interview with Paul Allen, Allen said he and Cho discussed trades to improve the team when he was in Helsinki. I think his ideas on that front were a big part of what he got the gig.

You see here Paul, can I call you Paul?...see there is this guy on the internet, and he laid out this beaut of a plan to nab Chris Paul. So, if you hire me, I am gonna do that. And, hey, thanks for practically inventing the internet and whatnot with Microsoft and all that. Its really cool. Not as cool as your Jimmi Hendrix museum and your submarine, but still pretty good.

If I understand Cho, there are currently no plans on trade ideas to improve the team.

If so, then how in the world did we end up with 5 SG's??? Especially in that we took a second round pick from Utah and grossly overpaid him to do what the team already felt Williams can do.

Well, here's hoping Cho can clean this mess up created by Al Davis II and Vulvan.

Just go back to the minutes and rotation threads and you will see, even right now it isn't that big of a deal. The only thing that really HAS TO happen before the season starts is Rudy needs to be moved. The rest of the rotation is fine.

Miller, Roy, Batum, LA, Oden
Bench: Bayless, Matthews, Cunningham, Camby

Rookies and Pendy get injury minutes and nothing more. Done, and done.

Apparently you don't understand Cho? He's on the record saying that this team is 2 or 3 moves away from being a legit title contender. I'd say standing pat is probably the furthest thing from his mind.

Maybe he is talking about a move to Centralia followed, possibly, by a move to Seattle? :devilwink:

That's what my wife and ABM tell me all the time.

Actually, I said you were a bit snobbish when it comes to Chinese. For the record, I was referring to food.

Food.

And they are?

Jerryd Bayless
Rudy Fernandez
Brandon Roy
Wesley Williams

Whose the 5th?

Actually, it's Wesley Matthews.

Is Elliot Williams a 2?

WTF is he supposed to do?

Q: So, Rich, now that you've been GM for 15 minutes, what's the first thing you're going to do?

A: Well, I'm going to explore a trade of Nicolas Batum for Chris Paul, which I heard was a rumor. I know this is because I was checking out the OregonLive message board and a guy named Mixum was saying that I'd be an idiot if I didn't do this. Then...you know, I've never liked Jerryd Bayless. He sucks! So I'll trade his ass too. And what's up with that punk-ass Rudy Fernandez? It's like that dude doesn't even want to be here. Gone. Lamarcus Aldridge plays a little like a 6th grade girl. I'd trade him too if I get a chance but his contract sucks so I doubt that'll happen. And I saw an MRI of Brandon Roy's knees. Ouch! Can you say arthritis? I know I can! So he's gone too. Okay...next question?

Just because he didn't SAY what he has in mind doesn't mean he has nothing in mind. Absence of proof is not proof of absence.

I was listening to WaW yesterday and some guy from Tillamook called in and said we should trade for Paul. Paul is good and he thinks that Paul would put us over the top. Wheels was like...... Okay.

Depends on which position you think Elliot Williams plays. Is he a one or two?

Bayless
Rudy
Roy
Matthews
Williams (potentially)

Is William a 1 or 2? Is Bayless a 1 or 2? Is Rudy a 2 or 3? To be bitching about having 5 SGs when only 2 (Roy/Matthews) are true 2's is dumb. Boo-hoo. No big trade happens, at least we will have plenty of talent when they all get injured.

I think I'm more concerned about us having so many guards. There's no way we're going to be able to play all those guys.

Miller
Johnson/Mills
Roy
Rudy
Bayless
Matthews
Williams

Do you want to play all those guys? If not, what's the problem?

Me thinks (recently extended) Buchanan and Born spearheaded the move to acquire Matthews. Paul and Vulcan bought that....with the caveat that the new GM (Cho) would be responsible for clearing the excess(es) at the 2.

In other words, the plan may be more solid that you well could have imagined.

Every pathetic weakass team in the league is 2 or 3 moves away from being a contender.

Apparently Mr. Choad is a glass-is-half-full kind of guy, like me.

Bottom line is that they added a 5th SG with no tangible idea of how to even out the roster.

Babbitt replaces Webster
Ibekwe replaces Juwan Howard
Matthews replaces Fernandez
Armon Johnson replaces Diener
Elliott Williams replaces Mills

The plan works for me. I see all upside (except the 1 year of Ibekwe).

Wesley Matthews was undrafted.

Also- I don't understand what some posters have against having 15 players. It's like they think we're supposed to consolidate down to 9. We are ALLOWED to have FIFTEEN players. The better all 15 of those guys are the better.

I agree with you. That's not usual. This really is a new age of Blazers basketball! ;)

Well, it will be interesting to see what happens now. Matthews is official, Cho is in place, now what? I would assume that Rudy will be gone in the next few weeks.

Well, that's your problem right there.

BP said, "I told you so", today.

I'm still maintaining a wait-and-see approach. IMO, it's too early to exact this type of judgement....waaaaay too early.

What? With so many trades being made around the NBA? Clearly the Blazers are being left out in the cold. We only used our MLE on a guy. We need to make at least seven moves in the offseason if we HOPE to improve.

I think I was either taken out of context (an ABM favorite) or didn't explain my self well.

All I was alluding to was that before we hired a GM (which means it could have been a few months before they found one they really wanted) we used our MLE to overpay a project player (and our 5th SG) and we had no other trades pending. I anticipated we would hire a GM sooner rather than later who would develop some quick plans for unloading a modestly talented SG or two, but that wasn't the point. The point was the Blazer brain trust had no plans set when they went after the 5th SG. None. I just found it irresponsible. I mean, I pretty much felt it would all turn out OK in the end, but they went about everything haphazardly.

Nothing was taken out of context. You alluded to this thread, followed by a "told you so." :)

Supposedly Rudy has been requesting a trade since December (per Quick's story today) and he shit the bed in the playoffs. The Blazers decided that when they entered free agency they really wanted Wesley Matthews because A) he defends well on the wing and B) he shoots 52% from the left corner and 38% overall from 3 point range and they drafted a low twenties project shooting guard who won't expect to play. Like it or not that actually is a plan and it was executed exactly as they wished to. Cleaning up and balancing the roster comes after you obtain your free agent target, not before otherwise you end up potentially whiffing and ending up with nothing (See: Nets and Clippers).

Nothing?? The Nets ended up with Outlaw <schoolgirl giggle>.

And how do you know what their plans were or are?
