We must get the 2nd Seed!

Man, getting the Spurs or Clippers in round 1 and then the winner of the Jazz/Nuggets with home court in both sounds soooooooo nice.

The Blazers should've thought about this sooner! :ygrin:
I think there were only four that selected the blazers to win over 50 reg season games. And Im not sure there were many at all that thought they would get home court advantage. Season is still on though....

I was one of those 4 with 54 wins.

I only need 4 more wins to collect on a bet placed in Vegas last Fall. Easy $$$. I also only need 4 more wins for the Spurs to collect more money. :matrix:

Been arguing about this on Twitter with Chad Doing and Travis Demers. They're both staunchly in the "2 seed is beyond reach, don't even bother thinking about it" camp. Chad even said that Denver is more likely to catch the Warriors than we are to catch Denver.

On that note, I think we still have shot at 1 seed. Our schedule is so easy and we’re playing great basketball. Can 55 wins get us the 1 seed?

I don't see Golden state losing any more than 4 games the rest of the way, so no, I don't think the 1 is possible.

2nd seed is so much better than 3rd. You get to play the Spurs or LAC. In 3-6, you have Utah, Houston and OKC. You don’t wanna face any of those 3 in the first round.
This is exactly what i'm trying to say, honestly i really don't care about come court or not, but i would much rather play against the Clippers or Spurs than against the Thunder, Rockets or Jazz. 2 seed or 3 seed could be critical

but Portland would still have to beat one of those teams, assuming they make the 2nd round. I get that people want the Blazers to win a 1st round series. For me, I want them to prove they can beat a good team in the playoffs, not beat a weak team, so I'm not pulling for any perceived favorable match-up. If they get one fine, but beating a weak, flawed, 7 or 8 seed playoff team in the first round doesn't prove anything for a team that has taken 4 years to get there. Just like it didn't prove shit for New Orleans last year...they wilted when they faced a contender

There are no weak teams in the playoffs from the west. Pelicans lost in the second round
and lost to the eventual world champions. They didn't wilt. They lost to a better team just like every team that played GS in the playoffs.

They could lose to the Lakers. I don't know exactly what's going on in LA but in full strength (Lebron, Rondo, Mcgee all playing), I still see the Lakers as a major threat

What are they threatening? To implode?

Actually there's a school of thought that knocking off the tough matchups early when a team has fresher legs is a good thing...boxers want the contender every match

I know that is your calling card but you didn't have an official prediction in the thread this year.
See win prediction thread from Aug 2018.....I bumped the thread..took awhile to find it

Yes beat 1 of those teams instead of 2 of those teams.

Now that I'm looking at Houston's schedule, I'm kinda concerned about them. They should lose to Toronto tomorrow, then after that, they may well be favored in all but 3 of their remaining games. We're talking about the Blazers needing to go 15-4 to have a shot at the 2, but they may need to do that well or better just to avoid being passed by Houston.

That is going to be a tall task. Because they currently have the tie-breaker, Portland would have to win BOTH games vs Denver. Then I believe DEN still has the tie-breaker due to Division record. So Portland would have to finish in front of the Nuggets. The Blazers have 19 games left while the Nuggs have 20. To gain 5 games on them (since Portland is 4 games back in the loss column) would require a Herculean effort. Denver is on pace to win 55-56 games

For Portland to get the #2 seed, you will either need a massive collapse from Denver or Portland would have to finish with 56-57 wins. To do that, Portland would have to go 17-2 or 18-1.

Next to impossible. Denver would have to slump down the stretch and Portland would have to stay really hot.
We have to make up 2 games outsides of sweeping Denver. With their schedule and how they're playing lately compared to our schedule and how we're playing, it's definitely possible.

We should be favored in all but 2 though.

The only games we shouldn't be favored in is (according to BPI)
@ SAS
@ DEN

The way the Pistons are playing, they shouldn't really be favored @ DET (BPI notwithstanding), and I certainly wouldn't bet on them to beat the Thunder on Thursday.

We beat Boston, Philadelphia, and Brooklyn on the road and lost off a game winner at Toronto. So I definitely disagree with that.

OKC has the same record as us. We were still competitive in losses to them and we have a better roster and are playing better than when we faced them earlier. So yes, we should be favored.

I had 50, but I hope to be wrong !

We should just focus on the next game for now.
However, I would like to see a rematch of Rockets vs Thunder and Harden scoring 80 points in OKC ... wouldn't that be fun?

Can’t wait to watch 80 free throw attempts!
