We need a Pau Gasol deal.

We should make a run at Bosh, the Raps offseason moves are not working and they are rumored to want to get value for Bosh before he bolts as a free agent. I would trade Travis, Batum, Rudy, Bayless, our pick and take back a bad contract of theirs.

Long term I'm thinking Oden might be best as a 25 min per game player. He has foul trouble and obviously injury issues. Limiting his minutes could benefit his health, and it would allow him to stay active on defense. He would be perfect in a 3 man big rotation with Lamarcus and Bosh getting the majority of the minutes.

Gasol deals only happen when Mr. Stern wants them to happen.

What other Pau Gasol deals have there been besides "The" Pau Gasol deal?

What team doesn't? That is like saying everyone in the state of Oregon needs to win the lottery.

Well, no kidding? Great post bi-po.

The Pippen Deal.
The Steve Smith Deal.
The Barkley Deal (Philly -> Phoenix)
The Garnett Deal (yes, Jefferson's a nice player, but there's a reason the Celts have a championship and the Wolves have the worst record in the league)

Yes, the Gasol trade was pretty glaring - but every day Marc Gasol plays, it looks less one-sided.

Um, the Garnett deal should not be on this list. Are you comparing Jefferson to Kwame? lol not even close.

Bullshit if it shouldn't. A couple of scrubs and Bostons version of Zbo for KG? Are you kidding me?

There's a big difference in a big salary dump, which is what the Gasol deal was, and trading a guy who wanted out for young prospects, even if most didn't pan out.

Oh, and you guys really don't have much for trade assets to land a Gasol type deal, you also have the issue of no team willing to do that type of a deal. The main reason the Lakers landed is because Heisley had the team up for a fire sale at that point in time because he was trying to sell it and wanted to shed all his long and expensive contracts.

Having Jerry West as a "team consultant" to the Grizz didn't hurt either.

So tell me who you would rather have on your team. Al Jefferson or Kwame Brown. Just answer me that, please.

So, there have been 4 (assuming generously all 4 are as one sided), in the past decade or so, including all 30 teams?

4 / (30*10) = .013 or 1.3% chance of happening to a particular team in a particular year...

This math is an obvious simplification, but I think saying we need a Pau Gasol deal is in the same league as saying we need to trade for Lebron or DWade...

Not really. Give me a break man. One of those "prospects" was Bassy. That was pathetic. If anything, maybe McHale was a plant by Boston to rig a player swap. Because that is what it seems like to me. There are a ton of teams who could have offered more for KG than what was offered there. They weren't given the opportunity because it was a rigged deal. My money is on that McHale is quietly offered a job in the Boston organization sometime after this blows over.

Substitute Marc Gasol for Kwame Brown, and the answer is Gasol > Jefferson (at least for me).

Don't you think it was really KG driving that whole thing as much as anything? He wanted to go win a ring so he didn't want Boston to give up much to get him. It wasn't a question of what was in Minny's best interests as much as what was in KG's best interests...

Give me a break. They got a 22 year old big man who just put up 16-11-1.5. That right there is better than anything memphis had got in their deal, or what they thought they got in their deal. Gerald Green was a 21 year old who just put up 10 points a game. Excellent? No. but was still considered a good to decent prospect at the time. Gomes, Telfair, their own first round pick returned to them which turned into Johnny Flynn, and Boston's first round pick which was Wayne Ellington. Yeah. That's significantly more value than Memphis got for Gasol, and

So what if they got more than Memphis did in their deal. That doesn 't mean both deals didnt' stink? Just because one includes one decent player, doesn't mean there were not better deals which could have been made for the franchise. History says the whole league lamented when they saw what those teams gave up those players for. Both for Memphis and Minnesota. Who gives a shit that Minnesota got one decent player. They could have done much better.

Except at the time of the trade, Gasol had mediocre value. Was playing decent in Europe, but was still a late 2nd round pick. They got lucky that he has improved the way he has, for sure, but there was nowhere near the expectation of him to be this good when that deal was made.

Exactly.

In the spectrum of NBA big men Al Jefferson is a whole lot closer to Kwami then he is to KG. We are talking about one of the most unique/best front court players in NBA history versus a dude that can score pretty well in the post.

The fact is Minni could not possibly have gotten equal value but it didn't appear like they even tried. They didn't shop KG. They simply sent him to Boston. The fact that two ex-teamates orchastrated the deal has to give you pause does it not?

Just like the GM of one team giving his best player to another team that just so happens to be the team he played for and ran for a great number of years.

Portland just doesn't have any sleeper agents out there to use to pull off such a deal.

Geoff Petrie?

Good point.

The only trouble is who from the Kings would be worth getting?

Let me be the first to say that Shock and Hawes would NOT be a Pau Gasol like acquisition. Kevin Martin plays the same position as Portland's best player with the added issue of being made of glass.

What you don't want Sergio?:tsktsk:

Or when a team is on the brink of being sold and management wants to get rid of all long term deals and replace them with expiring contracts and nice young players. You know..like what happened with the Gasol deal.

Regardless of age IMO TD is not the same player he once was.. thats why I have Roy ahead of him.. not overall career wise cause TD is one of the best if not the best PF of all time. Bosh is having a good year on the glass I'll give you that. But a lot of his rebounds are almost by default cause well Barnani isnt exactly a monster. Durant is a wonderful scorer and is rebounding finally. Lets see him do it when it counts or lead his team and then we'll see, but for now I'll take Roy over him. I just cant put Williams ahead of him sorry. Dirk I'm sorry but "improved" defender and Rebounder still doesnt make him adequate in that department IMO. But yes best scoring big I'll agree. Last year I had Melo behind Roy overall but Melo has def passed him this year.

Timmy is obviously not the player he once was, but he's still the best post player in the NBA and the defensive big man in the NBA too. There's also only a couple bigs who can pass as well as Timmy. In my book, he's still a top 5 player, even if he is past his prime.

Bosh's rebounds aren't really by default...he has worked to become a good rebounder. Next thing you're going to say is that Dwight's rebounds are by default because they don't have another good rebounder.

Durant is leading his team...they're above .500 right now and playing some pretty damn good basketball. In terms of ability, Durant is, in my book, ahead of Roy. He might not be the leader that Roy is, but that'll come with time. Roy wasn't the greatest leader in the NBA at the age of 21 either.

I don't see why you can't put Williams ahead of him. He's the 2nd best PG in the NBA, he's a good scorer, solid defensive player, and an absolute load to handle in the post for other PGs.

Dirk was an MVP, correct? And made it to the Finals. And is a top 5 scorer in the NBA. He may not be the best on defense or the glass...but Roy doesn't really do either of those too well either, now does he?

Its ok to agree to disagree sometimes. and no Howards rebounds are not by default.. he is a MONSTER on the glass.
