I meant "Webster Gets 4 year contract extension". Please change!

That's a fucking bargain for Portland ... I truly believe Martell is going to have a really decent year once he gets back to playing

I really think he owes it to us for taking this long to start developing. It will pay dividends. This is GREAT GREAT news. No cap hold, locked him up now....we're good.

You all know what this means right? Buh bye Channing and Ike (traded before the deadline or waived at the end of the year).

Do you think being hurt helped both sides reach an agreement? What I mean is we realized how valuable he is to our starting unit and him getting hurt scared him into a deal.........?

more then I would have gone, but still reasonable numbers for a guy with some upside... it will be interesting to see if Channing follows suit

STOMP

$5 mil/per is a bargain for what Webster could turn into.

Great news!

How do you figure it means that to Channing? They have to re-sign their own players too, you know. They can't put all their eggs in the free agent basket that people seem to be convinced they have to have all or nothing.

I don't being hurt played any part in it. I think Webster wants to be here and he wants to prove that he was not a wasted draft pick.

Webster's cap hold was going to be near $15 million dollars and was going to force us to make a quick decision with Webster having all the leverage. Now, Webster has security while he allows Portland maximum flexibility. The ironic thing is that Webster signing early allows us the flexibility to go after a SF to replace him in the starting lineup. Or maybe this means we're more likely to go after a PG.

Either way, Webster deserves and extra ovation tonight for this!

Great deal. I think Webster can be a valuable piece to this squad. I really liked what I was seeing from him before the injury.

Wow, what a great deal for Portland, and Martell sets up now as a very inviting trade piece!!!

It certainly could have had an impact. Webster looked terrific in the first preseason game. If he kept that pace up he almost certainly could have negotiated for more money. He'll still only be 25 at the end of this contract so he can make a lot more money if he performs.

Why? Is it so we can get max cap room? I think if we want to keep one, we will.

Well, both of their capholds are pretty prohibitive, and I doubt either would be in any big hurry to sing a qualifying offer or even to settle on a contract. I guess it all depends on whether or not KP goes the trade route before February or tries to get into the free agency pool this summer.

Who knows, maybe Channing would even be cool with the Blazers waiving his rights and then sign a contract after free agency acquisitions are completed?

There's another question: Does KP really want to keep Channing, who mostly duplicates LaMarcus' skill set, only not as well?

The capholds for both are the problem. If the Blazers don't extend Channing or Ike before the deadline then this year's salary will count at 300% for both players with respect to available cap room when free agency opens up in July. Portland has to renounce them or agree to terms before those capholds go away.

Personally I think the notion of dipping into big time free agency over the summer is less likely than Raef + others being traded at some point this season.

Nice deal for our starting SF! Get well soon Webster!

He's not a good fit as a starter with the team.

Fixed.

Travis is great as an instant offense guy off the bench, but he's probably just never going to be suited to fitting into a team oriented passing game, and his team defense is pretty subpar.

I disagree. I've always been hard on Outlaw, but I think he's a great player off the bench for the Blazers. I just wouldn't start him or have him in there with both Roy and Aldridge.

Whoa! I'm speechless. No way Webster takes that deal if he hadn't broke his foot. Bad news for him. Good news for us. I'm swear Pritchard is God incarnate. Some of his moves become just dumb luck, but also, he knows when and how to capitalize.

Sweet.

Very good move by the Blazers...I think Webster will develop into a very valuable player in the years to come....

5 mil per for Martell? For four years? Hell yeah, great deal for the Blazers. Now hopefully he can just stay healthy, but that's a bargain for the player he can become.
